Would it be an out in Fed rules?

Here's one an official brought up in a meeting yesterday. Fed - Team A, 2 outs, B9 batting out of order strikes out for the last out. Team B comes to bat and gets there three outs no issues. Team A is batting again an the OC tells the UIC that B9 batted out of order in the last inning and wants to know who now is the proper batter. After discussion the UIC tells the OC that B9 is the proper batter. B9 comes to bat and before his at bat ends DC tells the UIC that B9 made the last out in the previous inning. Who is the proper batter and why?

Fed... R2, after a pitch the F2 tried to pick off the R2 running back to second base. The F6 obstructed R2 not allowing access to the base before the ball got there, R2 and F6 collide and they both hit the ground (no malicious contact). The ball sails into centerfield and I called obstruction and awarded R2 third base. (I remembered seeing a thread in the free for all section that had a simular play at third and the ump awarded home.) The DC did not argue and the game went on. After the game the UIC asked me why I awarded third in that situation, I told him that the runner could have made it to third if the F6 hadn't OBS him on the overthrow. He told me that you cannot award unless the R2 had made an attempt to third. That I should of called DDB not a DB...

In Fed, R1 is not out until properly appealed. If properly appealed or tagged before both officials have left the field of play, then you have three outs and R3 does not score even if he touched home before the appeal is made. Force out...

I agree the pitcher should have been tossed for the way he acted, but look at the batters right foot as the pitch comes in (touching home plate). The pitch is an inside pitch which should have hit him if it were inside (ball). Looks like the bases were loaded, who knows what the score was... I could understand some of the frustration from the pitcher because that was called a ball. Now does that justify his actions? NO...but we owe it to the game to call the best game we can!!! .02

This happen friday night Fed - R2 on first, R1 on second, B3 hits a line drive to right center. When the ball reaches the fence F9 raises his hands that the ball got caught underneath the screening attached to the fence. U1 calls dead ball...F9 immediately picks the ball up which makes it look like it did not get caught under the fence. OC is losing his mined that the ball was never out of play, that the F9 intentionally raised his hands to stop the runners from advancing. How do you award bases if: A - F9 did intentionally lie that the ball was under the screen B - the ball did go under the screen in both cases R2 was passed second base and R1 was passed third before the hands were raised?

That's what I had, in the case book 6.2.4 situation A it has something simular to this, it states that it is a balk if there is no "attempt" or "feinted" by R3 to steal second...

Federation - R1 at third R3 at first, R3 takes several hard steps in what turns out to be a bluff to steal second. In the set position, F1, without simulating a pitch, wheels and steps towards and feints a throw to second while R3 is taking his steps to second. Correct call: a - Legal move b - balk both runners ar awarded one base c - balk, F1 did not legally step back before he made the feint d - legal, if R3 acually made an attempt to steal second We argued this in our group last night for quite sometime...

Any thoughts on Joyce's missed call at first base preventing a perfect game? I know i've missed plenty of calls, but never became infamous for them. Hope all goes well with his career...

Just got back from Albuquerque, had a great experience. I called the A State Championship game this morining in Isotopes Park:HD:. The evaluators told me I was solid behind the dish, but they ate my ass :hopmad:when I worked U1 and U3 in three man mechanics. As far as my judgement calls they were satisfied but my positioning needed alot of work. I learned alot in the last four days on three man, the only bad thing is I go back to two man for the rest of the year. Hard to practice something when you can't do it live. Very good experience though :wave:

Mazz The games are in Albuquerque, they start on Wednesday and run thru Saturday. It will be 1A-2A, 3A, 4A, 5A quarter finals thru the finals...:beerbang

Wow...I was invited to call the NM High School Baseball State Championships next week. What an honor...should be alot of fun and the opportunity to improve my mechanics. I heard they have some pretty strict evaluators...

Could this be a fourth out situation if it is properly appealed, so the run would not score? Otherwise the run scores if not appealed...

Very good thread, one to put in the record books. On the abandonment...My understanding is there is no abandonment until he crosses the plane of the dug out. At least that's what I remember from a missed third strike and the batter chooses not to run to first. He can still run to first even if he's two feet from the dugout. Does the same rule apply?

In Fed, there is no way to "break up" a double play. There are two things a runner can do, slide straight to the bag and stay down until the ball is thrown past him or abandon himself away from the play after he is called out.

Let's put a twist in this... Let's say the fielder did make the catch in foul territory, but the momentom carried him over the fence. What do you have?
