How to eject a spectator? You can handle it yourself, or you can tell the manager to control his fans, and either he handles it or you handle him, at which point an assistant will handle the fan if they don’t want to follow the manager to the parking lot. I’d rather eject the fan myself, but my assigner doesn’t want me to. Never understood why.

She needs to go. If you let it go, it opens the door for more BS. Profanity over a call in a LL game? I don’t think so. And this was in travel ball? Go figure.
-
5 minutes to leave, though?
-
"Thanks for letting me know that you're finished for the day. Enjoy the parking lot." "Well, I did. Either you can handle it or I can stop this game and ask the league director to handle it, your choice." "I'll be sure to let the league director know about that. He'll be in touch." Lmaoooooo you’re an animal I did let my assignor know about him though. He said: “Well fine, f*** him then.” I wish I could use the crying laughter emote on this forum.

I thought I heard that rule before. So I should have let the runner go home because they were rounding third?
-
You took way too much.

I wouldn’t say that’s worse than keeping score, but i feel you on the score card. I did a few games for this league further south of me last year. In that league, not only did I have to keep score, I had to grab both managers at the end of the game to sign the book and name MVP of the game for their team that day. Surprisingly, in spite of taking a fair bit of heat over there during a couple of games, nobody made any remarks like the aforementioned VTHC did when I had them sign the book. They always just shook my hand and said “good game, blue!” after signing. Still wish I didn’t let a few of those guys reach that post game conference, though.

Due to a game ending with a fight in the handshake line last year, we have to observe them now and make sure nothing breaks out. Used to be we could just go home. I didn’t say anything to him. I was observing the two teams line it up and then he went on this diatribe at me.
-
I gave him too much rope. But it did get handled and anything similar in the future will result in handling it right there.

Guess I’ll find out

10u softball. VTHC was arguing balls and strikes. Started earlier in the game when I called a borderline strike on his batter just below the armpit he claimed was too high. “That was at the chin!” I told him that was enough. He said “I’ve had enough too.” At the end of the game, he told me “you were so unfair to my team, if you were consistent i’d have said nothing. But you didn’t call it both ways.” Me: Gone. VTHC: “Yeah I’m gone. The next time you have my game I’m forfeiting.” There was also an incident earlier in the game when one of his parents said the F bomb at one of my calls, and he didn’t do anything. Me: Coach, one of your parents said the F bomb. VTHC: “I didn’t hear it.” This parent was right by us. The final score was 14-8. I mean.. I COULD have ran him for saying “I’ve had enough too.” or groaning at me sending his runner back because the pitcher had the ball was on the rubber earlier. But, he still went at the end, so.

You’re joking. I get $28-30 just for 8u depending on which league I umpire in. There’s 3 different leagues I work for, one pays $28 and the other two pay $30. Here I thought the main league was underpaying me at $28 for 8u.
-
No. I call Dead ball and just put the runner back at the last base they touched before the ball crossed the infield. The outfielders do actually try to get the ball to the infielders. But of course this being 8u they never really make the throw accurately.
-
If the thrown ball hits the ground before they were halfway to 3B, yes.
-
They don’t need to have possession, as soon as it crosses and lands in the infield, the runner goes back to the last base they touched if they weren’t halfway to the next base.
-
It was an 8u game on a field with no fence. In my league it’s a dead ball when the ball crosses back into the infield. (8u only) I didn’t call Dead ball at first but the HTHC appealed the ball should’ve been dead when it came back across the infield. I had no idea of that rule until this exact play happened. So I changed my call based on the rule interpretation and sent the runner back to second.

Drinking game: Take a shot every time I should’ve EJ’d before I ultimately did. My rookie year. 8u baseball. Runner at 2nd. Batter hits a ball to 3B. 3rd baseman tags the runner and I call him out. VTHC comes raging out of his dugout at me. VTHC: “NOOOOOOO!! HE DIDN’T EVEN TAG HIM BLUE!!!” Me: I have the runner being tagged coach. VTHC just goes on for a bit disputing the call and I repeat myself and say “this conversation is over.” And I get back to my position. Next batter reaches first safely and VTHC says “Hey blue, my run would’ve scored on that if you hadn’t called him out!” Another play happens at third, and I call the runner safe this time. VTHC sarcastically applauds that I got one right this time. Later on there’s a close play at first and I call his runner out. Here he comes raging at me again as well as the AC who screams “THAT’S TWO CALLS NOW!” Half innings he comes out to talk to me “blue, I think you should find another profession man.” VTAC chimes in again. “YEAH, YOU’VE BLOWN LIKE THREE CALLS TODAY!!!” So I told him that’s enough. VTAC: You don’t scare me... you’re a kid. Boom, I dump him. VTAC: Okay. I’ve gotta go? Where do I go? (He asks again, then leaves.) Later on VT batter hits a home run. I turn it back on appeal and send him back to second and as I explain myself VTHC comes out to argue again, but more respectfully this time. But.. not completely clean. VTHC: No way man, he should get third. Nope. Back to second. VTHC: You were right on top of that. Nope. My call stands. VTHC: You’re f**king me dude. Boom. Done. VTHC as he walks away: ..... you are. I guess at this point the only thing I did right was give the AC a short leash and then drop him when he blew through my stop sign and said I was just a kid. Took waaay too much heat from HTHC. Anyway, that’s the story of my first two EJs.

I’ve never seen that either, but now I know what to do if I’m doing a game with a partner.
-
I’ve never even known of a certain look you can make at your partner that says “pls help” But I also only have 3 career games as BU under my belt. You learn something new every day.
-
Batter runner out at first for abandonment. Run scores.
-
If it’s not directed at me or from one side to another, I usually let it go with a warning or “hey” at most. If it IS one side addressing the other or addressing me “That’s a B***$**t” call blue! Boom. Done.

Alright, here’s my first war story. 8u baseball. Score is 0-0 in top of the 2nd. HTAC informs the VTHC that their pitcher is at 57 pitches. Way past the limit of 42. So they change the pitcher. He walks in 5 runs and we reach the limit. Next inning HT has to make a change. He walks in 5 runs. Score is now 5-5! Near the end of this 2nd inning, VTAC is telling his batters not to swing because HT pitcher is throwing balls. I honestly didn’t pay full attention to what was said, but as of writing this, VTAC is banned from coming to games in that league. So I definitely handled this wrong or heard something wrong. Anyway, HTHC takes umbrage with this. “He’s an 8 year old kid! Don’t be like that!” “You’re telling them not to swing before the balls even crossed the plate” In the middle of each coaches respective diatribe, I get in the middle and say “we’re not doing this.” a good 3-4 times. I try to slow down the HTHC before just saying “if you keep going like that, I’ll have to put you in the dugout.” He tells me to tell the VT staff to stop causing trouble. I tell them that and they claim they’re just coaching, and say to HTHC “stop complaining.” I didn’t think I had to warn them. At that point. So the Inning ends. HTHC comes to me and I forget what he’s saying for the most part, but I just said “Coach, all I see them doing is telling batters not to swing at bad pitches.” VTAC comes in defending himself and here we go again. HTHC repeats “he’s an 8 year old kid!” VTAC: Are you a f#$&ing 8 year old kid? (I feel bad for looking back on this and laughing, because HTHC in question is such a nice guy.) I give VTAC a warning for profanity. All I remember afterwards is VTAC complaining about the HTAC tracking their pitchers count, when I’ve heard no rule prohibiting that. Eventually VTAC just says “you know what? I’m gonna stop talking.” And goes and apologizes to HTHC. Rest of the game went on fine. Then I saw HTHC again today. He asks if the league touched base with me on that and tells me the VTAC in question got banned from coming to games. Season long? Lifetime? I don’t know. He tells me I warned him when he was trying to help me, (VTAC was talking to my players and not me) like I said I wish I handled it differently/paid more attention, but it’s good now. What I saw, was the HTHC started it (why shouldn’t you tell your kids to not swing? But, I didn’t hear everything said. I mostly block out coaches) and VTAC escalated it and I should’ve ejected him for calling HTHC a “f#*&&# 8 year old kid” In my defense though, when it’s come down to profanity, I’ve only dealt with coach on players, and coach on umpire (aka me, and I ejected that guy) I’ve never dealt with coach on coach profanity, and at the time I didn’t know what else to do. Anyway that’s my first war story. (Not ending in an EJ. Might upload that particular one later.)

Under FED rules, if an assistant is ejected, the manager must be restricted to the dugout. Note: I heard that while lurking this board last year and not sure if that still applies, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

Clear Ridge as well? I know a Mike across the alley from me. He said he used to ump CR.
-
I doubt the umpire could actually suspend your child. I tossed two coaches in 8u and notified my assignor after the game as well as the league, and he didn’t know what happened to them until a week later. He said “I believe they got TWO games.” If there is a rule that an ejected player/coach shall be suspended for x amount of games, I believe that is what the umpire was getting at.
