    Fall Ball

I didn't even think of that... What if you aren't already in college baseball? I'm trying to get my foot into the door and just get in front of some eyes to get a chance to advance. I will be attending your camp next year and continue to work hard to advance.
  4. Secure possession while in contact with the base is all that we are looking for on a play like this. It is not like a fly ball that is sno-coned. Unlike the fly ball, secure possession with the bare hand doesn't require the ball to not be touching the ground because it can be easily determined just by looking at it. It is also completely different than the ball on the ground and the glove over the top of it. Just the palm touching the ball without the fingers around it, is not possession. Think of it this way... If you were to not change the grip and the fielder would lift their hand would the ball come up with the hand? If yes, you have possession. If not, you do not have possession. It is kind of like porn... you will know it when you see it.
  5. The Dodgers have always had thin lines for their batter's boxes. They turn the paint can 90 degrees to move it from a wide line to a thin line.

    Fall Ball

Emailed the coach at the NCAA DII school down the street from me... I'm working games for them Friday and Saturday... 3-man crews. Time to bone up on my 3-man mechanics

    Fall Ball

When I first started umpiring by my 4th year I was being assigned college games mixed in with my high school schedule... Now the group I worked for only has one high school and some college games along with tournaments and American Legion in the summer. I did email a school down the street from me just to let them know that I was available if needed. Update... Just got an email back from that coach and he wants me to work this weekend for them.
  10. I know that... but the last time I had them do numbers on a shirt it wasn't very good... not spaced right
  11. This jacket... no where I've found sells the jacket and does the number application

    Fall Ball

I'm just really looking to keep getting better. I would like to keep advancing and my goal in umpiring is to make a conference staff... then I will look for bigger goals. I just like working games and pushing myself to be better every time I go out there.
  14. So who could I go to that sells the short sleeved black with white shoulder stripes and get numbers put on it? Honigs doesn't have them... U-A doesn't do numbers to my knowledge.

    Fall Ball

Is there a way to get fall games if you aren't already doing college games?
  16. I guess we should expand even further on it... ANYTIME a pitched ball touches the batter the ball is immediately dead. What ever happens after it touches the batter is irrelevant.
  17. It is a learning situation... we've all done something like it. Just get better and move on. Like @noumpere said I wouldn't commit so hard to 3rd on that play. I would swing into foul territory down the 3rd base line, about 45' and read the play... as soon as I see that the throw isn't coming to 3rd, I'm busting back to the plate to be ready for a possible play at the plate and your partner has to take everything on the bases. We have to take this play as an angle over distance play. In a two man as the PU we can't over commit to the play at 3rd because a wild throw to 3rd or throw to another base now puts us into a foot race back to the plate. The only time we can really get on top of this play is in 3-man knowing that the 1st base umpire will be rotating down to the plate.
  18. ummm... there is no provision for placing the runner back on 3rd... he is out.
  19. I am planning on going to the Mid-American Clinic next year as I couldn't get off of work in for this years. I make it a point to ask everyone I work with if they see anything that I can work on. Most of the time I just get a "everything looks good" from them. It is hard to get better that way.
  20. I've been umpiring since 1999 and in the early 2000s I left umpiring when I was offered a coaching job. When I left I was getting some low level college assignments. This summer I got back into umpiring and am looking to get back to, and advance past, the level I was working previously. I've been studying my butt off and watching videos on new mechanics. I was just wondering how you guys went about asking for evaluations from your assigning associations? Do you just shoot off a email asking or have you had friends who umpire come out and give you notes?

    balk

There can't be a pitching infraction when the ball is dead.
  22. For high school baseball here in Missouri... If you don't submit your evals you are not allowed to play in the state play offs... They are done electronically. It goes on a 1 to 5 scale... 1s being the best... If you give a 1 or a 5 the coach must write a paragraph about why he gave that rating.
  23. So you want to trade a Wilson TI frame for a Wilson Ti frame?
