  1. Does anybody else wear X Small shirts for the bases? I wear small for all my shirts but out in the field they are a little big. I see honig's currently only has navy in X Small, which is not the color I'm looking for. I like Smitty shirts too, but I don't think they offere X Small. Anybody know where I could get that shirt size?
  2. Lol that would be interesting to see, but yeah, I could see some coaches doing that.
  3. Do any of you guys have any brand recommendations for compression pants?
  4. Fellas, I've had this play a couple times recently where there will be a rundown between second and third. Usually the pitcher picks the kid off from second and then the rundown begins. What I'm struggling with is the runner moves to his left or right to avoid the tag. My question is, how far left or right does he have to avoid the tag? How do you guys handle this type of situation? What do you look for? I had the play today where the kid got in a rundown, avoided the tag, but I couldn't tell if the fielder tagged him or not.
  5. I had a situation this weekend where the HC wanted me to get help on a play at first base (I'm BU). The offensive coach said: "His foot was off the bag! Ask for help!"He starts walking towards my partner who didn't say anything, then he walks toward me. I say, "Coach, the 1B foot got on the bag before your player got to first base. He is out." He turns and walks away.
  6. Cool! Maybe we can exchange test answers. I live in Omaha. I work for a couple different organizations throughout the year but American Legion with Nebraska Umpires Association.
  7. So even though there was interference originally it is assumed that the interference is ignored because of the out at 2B?
  8. Question 3 is the following: "R1 on 2nd base, R2 on 1st base, both runners attempt to steal as the batter squares to bunt. The batter misses the pitch then interferes with the catcher's attempt to throw R1 out at 3rd base. The catcher then throws to 2nd base and retires R2 advancing from 1st base." A) R2 is out, R1 is allowed to remain at 3rd, and the interference is ignored. B) Batter interference, batter is out, both runners must return to their original bases. C) R1 is out and R2 must return to 1st base. D) R1 and R2 are both call out. American Legion follows MLB rules NOT Federation. So I think 6.06 © covers this one. "Batter is not out if any runner attempting to advance is put out." Batter is not out but R1 and R2 are both out. I have D for this one.
  9. I'm working on the American Legion Test and have a couple of questions I'm struggling with. "R1 on 2nd base. Pitcher delivers the pitch to the batter without coming to a complete stop. The umpire yells "Balk." The batter singles to left field, and R1 remains at 2nd base." I know this is a delayed dead ball, but my question is if the play stands where does the batter and R1 go? Does the batter get first on the single and the runner stay at 2nd? Next question: "R1 rounds 3rd base and sees the catcher up the baseline awaiting the throw from the fielder, but the throw is cut off." I do not like the wording of this question, but the way it is worded seems like it should be obsruction regardless of the throw being cut off. Anybody have any insight here? One of the answers is, "The runner should try to avoid contact with the catcher even if he doesn't have the ball, obstruction should be called, and the runner is safe." I think that is correct. I guess my main question is how far can the catcher be up the baseline?
  10. The ball basically deflected off his glove about between him and the shortstop. The ball did not go to LF, it deflected off his glove to his left. F5 did not have much of a chance to move, from what I remember, right after he booted it R2 ran into him.
  11. I think there are some umpires that want to do High School level only and there seems to be enough to cover here. I wouldn't say there are too many umpires though. At the select and youth level here, you could say we have a shortage of "quality" umpires. The problem in our city is there are so many select baseball teams that it's hard to cover.
  12. I just purchased the base poly from honig's in 30. I may have to order the plate poly pants here soon before they stop carrying 30's. Earlier in the season I bought a 32 GD plate pants and they were huge on me, thus had to return.
  13. I received the Champion P220 today and tried it on. It is exactly what I need! Perfect for my size and the protection looks good also.
  14. Agreed!
  15. Makes sense. If we would have called obstruction that would have been interesting. It was a strange play.
  16. High School Freshman game (Fed Rules). I have the dish. Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs. Batter hits ground ball to F5, R2 aggressively moves to left of his base lane to avoid but F5 also comes in to charge ball. F5 fields the grounder misses the ball and then R2 collides with F5 after the fielder made a play on the ball. My partner calles R2 out for interference. OHC did not like the call. What do you guys have here? I honestly didn't know what to call when it happened. The reasoning my partner gave me after the game was that it was so obvious I have to call something. There was definitely no interference on the initial play, but the question is after the play happened they collided. Thoughts?
  17. Welcome! I officiate basketball as well.
  18. Good info. Thanks Haha! My fault.
  19. Uhhh I'm so bad at making decisions. The wilson chest protector I've used for 5 years is fine, but it sticks up in the shoulders and I hate it now that someone brought it too my attention! But I can't decide on whether to buy the Champion Body Armor for $55 or wait a couple months till I have the funds to buy the douglas for $180. Does anybody currently use the Champion Body Armor for high school ball and is the protection sufficient? I hate returning stuff so I'd like to make the right decision. Thanks!
  20. So you are saying that because I normally where honigs shirts that I shouldn't get smitty?
  21. What other colors would you guys recommend for summer legion baseball? I'm debating between navy, cream, or grey to go along with the polo blue. I have several black already.
  22. Thanks guys!
  23. I am looking to buy a couple polo blue shirts for this upcoming summer season. I need a small and the honig's small are out of stock. I was looking at smitty shirts, but none of them say polo blue. Is the light blue with black trim (mlb) the same as polo blue on this website? http://www.smitteez.com/index.php/products/smitty-umpire-shirts
  24. Thanks! I was looking at the Douglas, but looks a bit pricey for my taste. I may go with the Champion.
  25. Looks like we work for the same association. I also work with another one along with metro. I don't think I have worked with you, but hopefully we will eventually!
