This issue would have been foreign to me until a H.S. game this past year. Someone had beaten in to this catchers head that he needed to get his mask off immediately for anything and everything (ball in the dirt, past balls, pop ups, fly balls, etc. etc.). He wore his mask very very lose. He would flip it straight back with his throwing hand, and he was fast with it. I must have got hit in my face mask or chest more than 10 times. It was very distracting and NOT called for at all. I did "man up" and didn't say anything, but at some this issue needs to be dealt with. I did mention that he was killing me with him mask, but that had no impact. Since I didn't know what rule to apply or action I could justify, I bit my lip at the time. I felt like I just pasted it on to the next guy behind the plate. To be honest, it was one of the most weird experience I've had.

I agree that it looks much better and standardized to have a hat when HSM not in use. It gets noticed even if nothing gets said. If you are doing high level games you won't be carrying coolers and crap on to the field and can't be stashing your hat. I wear a 4 stitch hat and shades under my WILSON Shock 2.0 with no problems at all. (6 stitch in the field.) I hate the looks of the shorter bills and can't make a 6 stitch work. I now find it more comfortable than with no hat at this point. Curve the bill so the corners don't catch upon quick removal. Your hat will look better that way anyway and you won't be mistaken for those rediculous flat billed jobs some wear now days. Make sure you pull the bottom forward before/during lifting... I also re-routed the elastic straps on the bottom rear to go around the outside of the helmet. This keeps the straps from rubbing on the ears during removal, which is why I originally re-routed. I suspect this helps to not dislodge the hat too. Though I carry a regular mask as backup, I wouldn't change my set up one bit!

These have been shortened by removing 1" from the bottom of the shin plate. The measurement from bottom of shin guard to middle of knee is 15". Nothing is worse than too tall shin guards. If you are short through the shin area or wear high top plate shoes that force the shin guard up, you will love these. You can't tell by looking that anything was done to them.
