  1. Thats fantastic! Going to give them a shout tomorrow. I am up near Sactown... but have family near there. Also - @ everyone else, thanks for the comments. I did read through a dozen or so threads and saw good info on all that I listed, just wasn't seeing any direct correlation between what was best case for hard shell & low profile which @midtnump answered perfectly + the bonus info on height. I am familiar with the UnEqual, and looked at it a number of times, but had been leaning towards the Douglas since the Schutt was unavailable. Anyhow, thanks again all... hope your playoff games are enjoyable!
  2. Hello all, hope your all having a great season. So, I have been using the under-protective iX3 for the last couple years. I know it was undersized, but mostly I was doing fastpitch and JV BB. I'm now doing Var BB and will be doing some summer college games this year - and after taking two very hard shots recently, it's time to get something harder to wear for BB games. So, I was very interested in the Schutt XV - but unfortunately I didn't jump on it earlier int he year and its sold out everywhere. Below are the CP's I'm now considering - so any advice, thoughts, etc. would be greatly appreciated. For me personally, I like a low-profile CP. At 6'3" 250lbs, I already take up enough space - but know I need a hard shell to disperse the energy of those 85-90+ mph shots I will likely take. 1) +POS Zero Gravity 2) Douglas Hardshell 3) All-Star System 7 4) Wilson WV Gold Thanks in advance!!
  3. I always bring an indicator with me on base assignments... and it stays in my pocket. I got in the habit of doing that the first time a partner on the dish said to me after the plate meeting that he left his in the car... I always carry two when I have the dish, I broke one in the middle of a game one time when a player tossed me the ball and of course his throw was off and had to catch in with the left hand - broke that damn 3 ring on impact.
  4. see post #4 now i really feel the 5am hour... time to hit the rack.
  5. I wasn't aware you could get a 2nd strike on the pitch. I'd love to read that rule though... reference?
  6. I see this differently for baseball/softball. On a baseball diamond, I'm never going to go to my partner for help on the pulled foot pre-call. Just doesn't make sense, too far away, and he a) may not have been looking, or b) may not expect it. If the throw beat the runner, I'm banging the out. If the coach wants to come out and ask me for help, he better do it right... I'm not entertaining 'can you get help on that' as my answer is 'help on what coach, thats my call' - he better come ask me if I can check with my partner if there was a pulled foot. If coach does his part right, I got a 2 second conversation with my partner 'do you have a pulled foot at first - yes or no'. On a softball diamond, working with partners I know well, I may go to him with "_______ did she pull her foot?" he says no/yes then I make MY call. I am only asking him for additional information, NOT for him to make my call - and even then, it's only if I see him in position to see it, and likely only with 2 outs since then it's unlikely he will have to move all the way up to make the call at 3rd(yes, in softball, PU has the call on R2 going into third). In 10 years of doing hundreds of games a year, its only happened twice.
  7. Set before then. You can miss a lot due to bouncing eyes if you are waiting. You should be in your set before he's in the stretch. So your thoughts are then to set at first contact to the plate? As what I mean by set, is dropping to hands on knees position when F1 sets. Im already in my spot and angle when he gets on the bump.
  8. 1) If I have a partner, I never call time to sweep the plate. I will make eye contact and point to him/her to communicate that I need them to keep an eye out. 2) I set when F1 sets.
  9. I don't see how you cant make a kick - a throw - but I understand the logic, and see it clearly defined in FED. But this ruling, specifically in OBR looks different. The rule states: (h) One base, if a ball, pitched to the batter, or thrown by the pitcher from his position on the pitcher’s plate to a base to catch a runner, goes into a stand or a bench, or over or through a field fence or backstop. The ball is dead; Then, directly under that in Approved Ruling: If, however, the pitched or thrown ball goes through or by the catcher or through the fielder, and remains on the playing field, and is subsequently kicked or deflected into the dugout, stands or other area where the ball is dead, the awarding of bases shall be two bases from position of runners at the time of the pitch or throw. IMO - that final statement 'throw' refers to the ball 'thrown by the pitcher from his position' or TOT - since thats what the rule is directly dealing with.
  10. I'd have to go with NO BALK - as in your own words "takes off like he's going to steal" obviously in your mind he was attempting to advance - or at least give the impression he was. What I find impressive about this - is that F5(as a 13yr old) was paying enough attention to the play that he caught the ball.
  11. Ok then - so FED and OBR have different rulings then... as the OBR rule 7.05 as posted above by 'basejester' clearly stated in the bolded print 2 bases from TOP or TOT... TOT referring to an attempted pick off.
  12. I thought that basically anything from the pitcher on the plate awards are TOP?
  13. You need to read the rules again. OBR fixed (one of) the contradicitons. who is OBR? The Office of Baseball Redundancy office What do they do? When you call, they tell you the same thing... over and over.

    Appeal plays

Doesn't the Little League rulebook state that an appeal can be 'physical or verbal'? If so, does that mean that in Little League the defense does not have to physically tag or touch a base for the infraction and can just verbally ask for the appeal?

    Pitchers

Technically - whoever is charged with the winning run reaching base.
