I really don't know if she scored before or after obs so i let them keep score though. Did just that, she went to second but i sent her back to first.

This is under babe ruth softball i just want to make sure i get the call right or if didn't fix next time. 7.06 When obstruction occurs, the umpire shall call or signal "Obstruction" (a) If a play is being made on the obstructed runner, or if the batter-runner is obstruction before she touchs first base, the ball dead all runner shall advance, without liability to be put out, to the base they would have reach, in umpires judgement, If there had been no obstruction. The obstructed runner shall be awarded at least one base beyond she had last legally touch before the obstruction. Any Preceding runner, Force to advance by the award of bases as the plenty for obstruction, without liablitity to be put out. So what happen was this Batter-runner running to first base fielder comes of the bag in between both bags i said obustrtion and awarded first base. she would of only reach that. there was a runner on third but she didn't need to go.(she scored i believe but i was not sure if that would count or have to send her back) So what ruling would that be? Once obstruction is called the ball is dead.

Right. Especially when the coach says, " Great call!" on a controversial call that went his way. No they didn't Edit: really i know how to call fair or foul you try to do that when the ball still in the air and right over the line with the fielder reaching for it up. One of the diffuclt calls possible. Edit 2: He didn't agree with all my calls either he even told the other said he thought one of there runners was safe but it was not a knock on me. He said i had bang bang calls that could of gone both ways. I called and out on runner going out of base line and he wanted me to call obusrtion she was way to far out for me to even consider obusrtion.

When your Uic say that a coach/manager said you were a wonderful umpire no issues at all. I was very pleasent surprise by a coach this weekend. I had some very close calls just for 8u saturday. 1. Was a ball over fair/foul i called it fair as the fielder was under the line and i believe it would of hit the line if she was not there. 2. I called an out on a close play at second base 3. I called safe on miss tag in one of the games. I love how manager/coach say something nice about you.

Article on violence against officials
Umpiresoftball replied to Umpire in Chief's topic in Off-Topic/Funny Stories
Well this happen a couple years ago -
so this means you don't strike the black part of the plate, correct? It's technically not part of the zone. In that sense, i don't know really good question... But the saying is if it hits the black part of the plate, than it has to hit part of the white. With softball balls there much larger so they cover more zone. with baseball much more harder to do. I don't think i ever change the way i call.

I agree i think she just didn't want to eject cause it was her first time at the states. I learn part of my issue when i had a game here. and i learn to make sure i don't say it Nothing bad. my game i couldn't hear time being called cause of a pervious injury on another inning the crowd was getting reckless and screaming at people and us to send runners back. You are only granted time you don't get time. I apoglise to coach i couldn't here him after i learn about it. But i was not the only whom couldn't here

I never really given neighborhood play, as the runners have to hit all bags so do fielders if force or tag.... im not going to allow that to happen. I can't speak for others

Not every ejected that night. So i was up at the states for 12u and 8u girl softball fast pitch. New umpire to the state i won't use her real name. I'll call her Cate, So Cate was doing u8 game and she confuses obustrtion/interfrence call, the coach/maanger got upset and got the fans to call her the b word and no good umpire. She was ok after the other umpire spoke to her (i had a game to do i could tell she was upset after the game) So i was glad they help her out.Anyways once the uic and DC heard what happen. The next day i was suppose to have this coach next morning but my uic did the game instead and warn that if she or any coach walk or even come to them they be thrown out.DC sat right in the stands of the team that said that to Cate. I heard DC said he call someone about what happen that night. Sorry if that hard to understand cliffs coach got fans to call the umpire b word and no good umpire uic did the next day and put a stop to it dc sat in the stands where the fans went off the umpire the other day Dc called someone about that manager/coach Umpire got confuses on interfrence/obustrtion rule

Strangest thing that has ever happened to me (last Sunday)
Umpiresoftball replied to Pete Peterson Sr's topic in Ejections
Sound like when you ejected the coach, he told the fans something not true and they believe the coach/maanger, So glad to see many TD do something. We had a terrible issue i'll post about if i can get infomation right. -
Question, everyone handles people diffrent but was a slash bunt or jusr a regular bunt? If it was slash bunt its not an out there swining the bat, consider a swing. anyways i do agree with others coach should of been warned from the start and she open her mouth again she be gone. what leauge? what level?

I am sorry but i wouldn't be able to keep myself from laughing at one of those.

Same at the state coach's manager said they had water for us. the people in the cocession stand brought us waters without asking.

I understand you all seem to would eject, Maybe it just mean but I would of warn the player and the manger of that. than if heard again i would of thrown kid out. @UMP45 Well we know where the kid got it the apple does not fall far from the tree. There was a vising coach from out of town to play vs the city i was umpiring for softball he got upset over my calling runner out early. He didn't swear but i put my foot down so he never open his mouth again till the game was over telling me that i need to move out of the way. I stayed where i needed to so i could make the call on the play.

the travel, the cost that is the only thing that bugs me....

Welcome to boards, Is it really worth going to umpire school?

I think i should of called obusrtion but never did mind you this is 8u so in a sense there still learning so i am not some hot level umpire who going to enforce every rule possible. Espcially at that age Fast pitch softball u8 local rules or tournament are the following 5 runs per innning 10 mercy rule 6 pitch in else the six pitch is foul off you get 7 seven. no infeild fly rule no stealing leading once it reaches batter. coach behind catcher but cannot coach or do hand signals. coach pitch. (got to be on mound) So this was the call ball hit towards second base. br going to first first base man is in between the foul on home and first, and she goes around the fielder. the second base man tags first. But she also went into dugout afterwords to. The other called i clearly goof. I for some odd reason call a foul ball when the ball was behind third base and went into foul I called foul instead of point fair. I was going to award her the base... but i don't know why i think my mind got confuses over interference/obstruction call. Or just a brain fart i guess. i mean it was 15-1 anyways

What many coach's/managers do we do allow for free subs to go in in spring/fall ball... There no rule that you must slide there two options. 4. slide or avoid interference. 5. mc would be a judgment by umpire if they feel that it was intentional. I know the rules... state that you have to pretty much use a sub for players. But many leagues have local rules free subs for pitchers/catchers.

Sad story may he r.i.p and i hope they family does not blame themselfs sounds like a freak accident. But also pay attention. Are Uic i think he was doing u10 invitational and he call's balls in... well one came in and hit him in the face black and blue not sure how long. It took to... go away. Scary moment i had. I was doing fall ball u10(baseball) in my city, and there was a foul ball... we couldn't find the ball it was between my neck/chin. I had the coach look at my neck to make sure i was ok. and continue the game. That was scary.

Hope you guys had plenty of water though.

I seen a lot of umpires say they love the hockey stile max. I personally like the old fashion mask I didn't need to add a throat guard it was built with one. Not to mention who wouldn't want to see my pretty hat? <joking
