Friends, Recently, as you know, I needed to get a new bag for my gear. I dearly loved the Force3/JEAPU bags, but they just didn't work for me. So I went bag hunting. Over the years I have used almost every bag in the market, including an MLB trunk for a short time, so I have a little insight about using bags to carry gear in. In many ways, the old +POS soft side carry bag was the best of the bunch, but like most shoulder bags they are not adequate in the days of multiple uniform colors, HSM's and hardshell protectors. +POS went to more standard carry bags in the mid 1990's, near the end of their first run of business, but on ebay you will still see the older carry bag available. If it fits your needs, it is worth looking at (or even buying my copy if you want it!). My new bag is the Wilson A9779 bag, which I purchased for $99.00 plus shipping, making it about $113.00 total. If i find that I would prefer the Diamond bag, I will dump this one and evaluate the Diamond. But I though I would start to tell you about this bag, and see if this might help with your evaluation. In time, I will add pictures to this evaluation. I. Size and Handling: As of this point in time, you basically have two choices for umpires bag sizing: The Wilson A9779, 3n2 Big Bag, Honigs A93, and the Diamond 36" bag at roughly at 36"L x 16"W x 16"W/height) and the Force3/Diamond 30" bag at roughly 32" x 15" x 15". These bags all have rollers, at least one or two separate compartments, and can carry both uniforms and gear in separate compartments (except for the 3n2 bag which only has end pockets that shoes can fit in). All the aforementioned bags have carry straps but the large Diamond bag. All of them have straps on the ends to pull or lift bags with. One advantage of the Force 3 is the molded plastic handle on the bottom of the bag to pick it up with. The 3n2 bag has a shoulder strap for your use, I'm not sure anyone can use it, but it is there. One main difference between the small bags and the large bags detailed above is the telescoping handle, or lack of it. All the large bags (except for the Honigs A93) do not have the telescoping handle as found on most modern rolling luggage, the smaller Diamond and Force 3 do. I personally prefer the handle, but I can see why they might be hard to handle on big bags. Not that the telescoping handle is the be all end all, the Force 3 bag is hard to get over bumps, door jams and other irregular parts of the walkways we use. Many times I would find the bag hit a rough spot and the telescoping handle bag will flip over on its side, or flip on one wheel, making it hard to carry. The larger and wider bags are more stable since they are wider, and the weight of the bag is closer to the handle. The long telescoping handle makes bags much longer, and putting the weight of the bag so far away from the handle makes them inherently less stable (the physics are easy as to why this happens, remember how easy it is to move weight on the far end of a fulcrum as opposed to a shorter one?). I disagree. this is legal in Fed. Gorilla Arm was made legal in FED this year as long as the arm didn't swing. 6.1.3 CB: 6.1.3 SITUATION P: With a runner on first, Team A right-handed pitcher is in the set position, bent at the waist and his pitching arm naturally hangs down slightly in front or to the side away from his body. As he looks to the catcher for a signal, a) the pitcher's arm is stationary or B) the pitching arm rocks slightly from side to side. RULING: In a), the position of the arm is natural and can be considered by his side in meeting the rule. Any movement would then start the pitch. In B), any movement of the arm is considered the start of the pitching motion and a pitch must be delivered to the plate so this motion results in a balk. From what is described this is more or less the same thing. Where is the deception making this a balk?

MS, Just a summer thing. My partner told me this is the first time he'd had any problems with them over 5 years of working their games. The whole episode surprised me no end. I was a one-time substitute, forever and ever Amen. :yippie:

Double D, I was surprised to find out that the league took a report and there could be a suspension upcoming for the chair thrower. Each team gets their own umpires, and the guy was in hospital, so the absence was legit. Maybe for me this is a reminder that this age of baseball is so different than the levels i normally work it requires special skill to truly do well. The players are children, out supposedly to have fun and enjoy the game. I used to have a hard-and-fast rule I would never do any games with players below 13 years old and all games on a 80' diamond at least. I think I am going back to that rule.

So, ... "safe" (kid beats the throw by a step...which is, as we know,...a MILE in our world ) and a stupid fielder tagging w/out the glove is your fault ???? No worries jk ... your'e good! Thunder, Yeah, I know it wasn't my fault. My fault in this was taking the game in the first place. I sent in a report on the ejection today, I will see what happens. I put in the post my days of umpiring little kids ball are over.

It's my fault, I mean really it was my fault.... I walked 18 at the local course today after 5 games in the last two days. Score was decent for as little as I've played this year. Thought I would have a nice day off to spend with family. Then I get a text from a young umpire who told me a game needed an umpire due to illness. Being a complete sucker since the game was only 2 hours from starting I said "Okay, I'll take it, X:XX at XXXXXXXXXX." Get there, then I find out it's 11-12 travel ball. OH NO. Partner offers me the plate, but he's already dressed. I decline, I have adult league games the next four days. My first call, bottom of 1st. Kid beats throw by a step. V 1B goes gonzo, loud mouth mom starts yelling. Ugh. then F6 puts ball in glove during a rundown, and tags R2 with empty hand. V's are down 10 runs at least. All my fault. Bottom 2nd. In pregame partner says "If you have a player out of the dugout with no helmet the player is ejected no warning. This is in fact your warning." Well, a bench player sans helmet takes two steps out of the dugout to get a bat during a dead ball. PU sees him and ejects him. Home 3B coach/HC comes down, is very angry but has controlled talk with PU. I'm in B thinking "I think this is over. why did this have to happen?" The HC then asks a coach sitting at the front gate of the dugout on a chair to coach 3B. Coach heads to 3B, then HC takes chair and heaves it into the infield. PU either doesn't see it, or ignores it. so I get to do the honors. HC leaves field area, but I heard him once. I was about to tell a coach to calm him down, because if I see or hear him again, my partner and I walk, and he forfeits. He then left and shut up. Game after that ejection was a complete circus. I have 20 minutes of stories to tell, but I won't. Neither set of kids wanted to be there. No smiles, no fun, nothing but coaches yelling at players to do things they were not taught to do. Got through 5 innings, something like 16-15 H wins. Game is something like 2:30 I swear I will never do another travel game unless it's at least HS aged kids. I may never do travel ball period. HC needs banned from league IMO. These kind of antics are destroying the game.

Please don't laugh men, But today I wore contacts on the field for the first time, and I thought I'd gone to heaven. Even though I had a cup shot, foul ball off my mask, and a foul ball below my CP, so now I have a bruise on both sides of my stomach, it was great. I have astigmatism, and I could never wear contacts until the other day my eye doctor came up with a pair I can wear. The difference is amazing, and I have worn glasses for all 30 years I have umpired. II had to do something to get rid of the glasses, and finally I found something. But, i can see (no pun intended) that I will need some sunglasses for these contacts. Any suggestions about what are good sunglasses to wear? Thanks!

Good day umpires! I have a ton of spare equipment I need to move to new homes. I have tried to keep it in good shape, and most all of these items will serve you well in the coming years, I hope! I need to move this stuff, and buy some new gear and a new equipment bag. Please purchase. But, I won’t drop too far off them! 1. Used Once/Brand new New Balance 995 Base shoes, size 14 2E. All black, with a shine as good as brand new. I purchased this pair last year and wore them to one Fall Ball game at a D1 university. The shoes just don’t work for my feet. Asking $75 for the pair. 2. New “Without Tags†Wilson A3077 mask. SOLD 3. Used AllStar MVP2000 HSM. This is the original AllStar HSM used by MLB umpires, with Kevlar shell and titanium frame. It took a while to get in like 2004 or 2005; I had to call AllStar to order the mask, which then shipped it to a vendor. It is used with a few scratches on it, to make it just like new all you need to do is use touch up auto paint to hide the scratches. They also ran out of helmet stickers, so the folks at AllStar put an MVP 2200 sticker on it, then the added ‘0’ came off it. It has a nylon carry bag. The HSM originally cost $329 to get it; I’ll let it go for $80. 4. 1 Pair of Brand new NB 350 Base shoes, size 15D. Never worn. Comes with original box and packaging. Shoes have the gray ‘N’ on them. Got these from Honigs, and since these shoes fit me well I am tempted to keep them, but if you need this size, I’ll let it go for $90. 5. Old style MLB Navy Blue Pullover jacket made by Logo Athletic, size 2XL. Yes it is old, early to mid 2000’s. All Navy except for Navy/White/Red cuffs on sleeves and abound the bottom of the jacket. Has # 24 on right sleeve. Asking $35 for the jacket, if you need navy pullovers in your area this is a great one to have. 6. Old +POS Umpire Equipment bag. Size is 25X12X8. If you want the exact size, I can re-measure it. This was out in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and maybe they were selling these up to the time the original +POS died. It is a soft sided bag with three compartments. The largest one has sewn in pockets for shoes and shin guards and/or a mask. The other two compartments were meant to hold a foldable CP, then clothes and sundries in the 3rd pocket. It’s is great shape, and I’m asking $45 for it. 7. Original JEAPU Umpire’s equipment bag. This is the first generation of the Force 3 bag now for sale. This bag is in pretty good shape, the corners are not worn badly, and the bag is sound except for two zippers. One zipper is in the small front compartment on the outside of the bag. I don’t think it needs replaced, but it does stick and does not stay zipped. The second zipper that is bad is on the inside of the bag. This zippered compartment is where the plastic piece that strengthens the side of the bag is located, and the strengthener is too long for the pocket, which broke the zipper. All you have to do is shortened the plastic piece, then zip it up, and I think it will stay, or you can seal the pocket up another way. It includes pants and shirt fold up bags that come with it. I’m asking $85 for the bag. I am selling the bag because while I can get it fixed, it just isn’t big enough for my needs. I used it in my winter sports to carry my gear, but it’s too big. It needs a good home and lots of use from a good umpire. 8. 2010 Edition of the Force 3 Umpires Bag. SOLD 9. Used NB 450 plate shoes, all black, size 14 4E. I am putting in a new set of insoles, the old ones are shot. Asking $25 for the shoes and I will throw in a container of polish for them and shoe bags. 10. I have a Navy +POS, or I would be bidding. Do yourself a favor and get a plate coat. You will never go back to the alternatives behind the plate once you wear a Fetch plate coat.
