  1. I just have to share this with someone. Batter receives a base on balls and OC comes out and says he is putting in a sub for the kid who just walked. Apparently this kid was not a starter and had just entered the game. DC comes out and says" You can't sub for a sub". ???????? I'm still wondering where this guy learns his rules. And this was a junior legion game.
  2. I'm quite certain the ball landed fair but it doesn't matter where the ball is because once intereference is called, everything is dead. Of course it should have been called immediately. The other thing I noticed was the runner on first never knew where the ball or the fielder was because he wasn't looking. If he had been watching the play, he may have avoided the int call.
  3. It was the second play by an infielder and the runner had not reached first when the throw was made. Two bases from time of throw should have placed the runner at second base, not third.
  4. Did you notice the incorrect base award in the top of the 4th inning?
  5. Yeah, That's true also.
  6. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that. Problem is most people don't know the definition of a force. Third out was by a runner who was forced to advance because the batter became a batter-runner....no run scores. Easy Call.
  7. I guess this is truly an unknown rule since some umpires don't know it.
  8. Force Plays. A few years ago I had bases loaded with two outs. Batter hits ground ball to F5 and for some reason does not tag third. Runner from second base stops and they get him in a rundown and he is tagged after runner from third touches home plate. I immediately indicate no run scores and then had to explain to the offensive coach why.

    Balk?

To amend your post, it would be more correct to say "A left or right hander must throw to first base if he steps there, period (while in contact with the rubber). A left or right hander does not have to throw if he steps to third while in contact with the rubber. There are not different rules for a left or right hand pitcher.
  10. Years ago a pain in the a$$ coach was chirping (as he always does) and finally in the bottom of the seventh I pulled my mask off and said" OK Larry, that's enough". As we crossed paths after the game, he said "Don't call me Larry, you call me coach" and I responded "Don't call me blue. Call me Mr Umpire Sir".
  11. Any pitch that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher is going to be one of two things; A foul tip if it hits the catcher's hand or mitt and is held; or a foul ball if anything else happens. The only way it would be a caught fly for an out would be if it was not sharp and direct to the catcher. IOW if it was popped up (not sharp and direct), it could bounce of the catcher and be caught by the catcher or another defensive player for the out.
  12. I think you are overcomplicating this. If It is the first play by an infielder, all runners get two bases from the Time Of Pitch. if the BR had achieved fist base, and all other runners had advanced one base, then it will be two bases from the Time Of Throw. If it is not the first play by an infielder, then all runners get two bases from their position at the TOT. In the OP, since the BR had not obtained first, he would be awarded Second. Award all other runners two bases from where they were when the throw was released. The position of the BR on the second play by an infielder has no bearing on the awarding of bases. (In both cases the BR winds up at second base)
