Everybody is aware that there is a Softball section on this forum, right? I can't relate to softball mechanics and traditions. It gives me a headache.

There is a softball forum. It is under "Level of Play" at the bottom of the main menu. The only softball posts I see in the baseball sections are comparing baseball to softball, and therefore are allowed into the discussion. If someone poses a straight softball question, they will be redirected to the softball section.

Apparently this is a matter of some contention. Seems it was an old standard that hasn't evolved. Very embattled debate took place in another thread. In OBR, anytime an appeal is requested on a check swing, HP is required to grant it, regardless of BU position or which box the batter is in. Comment: anytime HP comes to you on a CS appeal, give him what you got. Period. FED mechanics do not require to give a check swing appeal, but to not do so is quite rude and egotistical. The BU can see a check swing from A, B, C, or D perfectly well. The batter either offered or he didn't offer. Areas that teach not to ask for help because of the position of the BU are a bunch of douches. Ask for help when requested. Why does everyone feel the need to unnecessarily provoke these cheeseeaters? SDS, I have joined forces with those in this camp. I checked with bigwigs and they said appeal is ok in fed BU in working area. Goes against what I was taught before, but I will definitely adapt to the times. I was merely stating facts about FED/OBR regulations on this matter. And I was merely commenting that it looks arrogant to say "Ball, no he didn't go," like we used to be taught years ago. I have learned to welcome a strike from the BU if I missed one. Gets me closer to the end of the game! :)

Yes, you must learn to be more tolerant of abominable lifestyles it appears. Who would have ever believed it?

Last time I checked I was an umpire, not a groundskeeper. Fronny, not all of us get to work games that have groundskeepers like the ones you get to work! The major league grounds crews keep the bases spotless and even replace them with fresh ones in the 6th inning. It must be nice to work on fields like that. If I tell a player to "get the base for me," the knuckleheads I umpire for would probably yank it out of the ground and hand it to me. You really have to draw them a diagram to get them to clean off a dirt-covered base.

In many of my games, the bases get completely covered with dirt to the point you can't find them on some fields with sand and loose dirt. In these cases, like after a steal when the base becomes obliterated with dirt, I will kick the dirt off the base or at least the edges so the base can be seen. I will not brush a base or the pitcher's plate. Usually, I have a player police the bases if there is one handy.

First, break the habit of calling "Dead Ball." The proper mechanic is to call "Time" on a hit batter. Secondly, if the BU says that the ball hit the batter, then he has to do all the explaining to the coach. The coach should not have asked you why the BU didn't put his hands up and call Time, but rather asked the BU, since it became his call when he overturned your no-call. Thirdly, the dugout yelling "it hit him" the next time was just to see if they could talk you into it, since they felt you were gullible the first time.

This isn't protestable. IFF can be called retroactively. In general, IFF is only protestable if the criteria aren't met, and it is called anyway. I would protest the interpretation that runners can't advance on IFF. That is what the umpire uttered out of his ignorant ASShat mouth. Where do they get these guys? That part is not a judgment call. Once the umpires called IFF and did any runner sending back tricks, I would be protesting if they refused to get it right.

Your strike zone is none of their business. Don't let anyone micromanage your game. There is a time limit in place, so they can just stand around on the bases while you do the actual work. Bunch of game ho's.

Oh, see now this is an example of an umpire who has one year of experience 20+ times. I would rather work with a first-game rookie than one of these dipsh*ts.

I'm not impressed. I want the ball to bounce off of me, and this thing doesn't look like the ball is going to bounce off of me. Kevlar, as stated, great for stopping bullets. If the pitcher is shooting at me, I would love to be wearing one. Actually, I'm a little surprised that hasn't happened to me yet!

Chartered LL does NOT use FED. They use OBR with their modificatoins. You're not up to speed. He meant LL age and above. Maybe - but that's not what he said. But you knew what he meant. At least that's what you always tell me. :shrug:

I remember having to make those missed base calls and I hated it. It made me feel like a snitch. Also, be careful when you use LL generically. The Little League police will be quick to correct you. I like to use "Youth ball" for any sub-shaving age baseball, and only use the "L" words for the Original/The Best :fuel:

Please, all you guests who are asking questions: Try to provide as much specific information as possible in order to get the answers you seek. You can't just say "runner bumps first baseman" and expect anyone to know WTH you are talking about.

This is the story I'm much more interested in. Why IS he working an All-Star game of even Tiddlywinks? Like the E-trade baby once said, "This is not the venue."
