Lol. Gotta love high school ball. I swear, there are some people on my board that I wonder why they even still umpire if every game they screw something up and every game they get yelled at by the coach. Most of the time on our board, the person with the most ejections in a season screws up the most..

wow. how can an umpire not know that hands are not part of the bat. Obviously, the umpire has never read any baseball myths, such as tie goes to the runner, hands are part of the bat, etc.

I saw the PU screw up in the LLSBWS game tonight. The bounced and hit the batter and the knucklehead PU awarded her first base. EVERYBODY knows that the ball is dead when it hits the ground. I just can't believe LL would such an incompetant umpire on a WS final. :fuel: :smachhead:

Our JV coach got away with this yesterday. Visiting player gets hit in the hand, umpire starts to send him to first. Coach yells, "HANDS ARE PART OF THE BAT! IT'S IN THE RULE BOOK!". Umpire actually brings the batter back and puts him in the box:WTF Player didn't swing, just tried to avoid the pitch. Visiting coach says NOT ONE WORD. I almost choked I was laughing so hard inside. I whispered to our scorekeeper, "Ever seen a bat with hands?" Same game, a visiting parent wants to know why our player at second base is not tagging the base after every pitch. Almost choked then also.

Actually, you could take this another way. I've umpired ever since I was 13, and I am 21 right now, so I have really progressed over time, and I have spent a couple years coaching some younger LL kids when I was around 18 or so. Being as knowledgable about that game at that point as I was, you begin to learn the ways to get in an umpire's head throughout the games. Especially if the umpire comes across as not too bright maybe. If this was one of those rare situations (clearly the umpire was not very intelligent or knowledgable of the rules/game), the coach could have just been bailing his guys out. I mean, as a coach, I'd do anything short of cheating and playing dirty, to win a game. And if you just mention something, as did the coach, and the umpire obliges, then you are not cheating, just helping your team out. Kinda the same principle of an umpire calling a pitch a strike and the coach saying something like, "Blue, that looked a little outside from where I'm sitting", and the umpire basically agreeing and changing the call to a strike. Never see it happen, but if the umpire is stupid enough to do it, then kudos to the coach, right?

And MS, I'm guessing your last post was a joke, right? lol

But I do like the comments about going to buy bats with a pair of hands included in the purchase price! haha Classic!

In the NE Regional baseball, the PU had a bunt attempt that bounced and hit the batter. He had to explain he had an offer, dead ball and a strike. Well done.
