MLB Ejection 115 - Doug Eddings (4; Oliver Marmol)

HP Umpire Doug Eddings ejected Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol (hat/uniform rule/pitch clock violation; QOCN) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the #Cardinals-#Rockies game. With one out and one on, St Louis effected a pitching change, substituting Justin Bruihl into the game for departing pitcher Hancel Rincon. Upon entry, Eddings and Marmol engaged in an argument during which the between-pitchers pitch clock timer expired, resulting in a pitch clock violation and automatic ball charged to Bruihl. Eddings reportedly took issue with Rincon's uniform and specifically how Rincon wore his hat. Replays indicate the pitcher's uniform cap was worn on the pitcher's human head, the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Cardinals were leading, 4-3. The Cardinals ultimately won the contest, 7-6.

This is Doug Eddings (88)'s 4th ejection of 2026.

*Official Baseball Rule 3.03(a): "All players on a team shall wear uniforms identical in color, trim and style, and all players’ uniforms shall include minimal six-inch numbers on their backs."

OBR 3.05(b)(4)(E): "Each runner, other than the batter, may without liability to be put out, advance one base when: A fielder deliberately touches a pitched ball with their cap, mask or any part of their uniform detached from its proper place on their person. The ball is in play, and the award is made from the position of the runner at the time the ball was touched."

This manager showed a restraint I would not have - I'd have gone nuclear, and likely been suspended...I'm not talking violence, but I would have violated every rule MLB has about what you can or can't say after a game to the media about the umpires...at the very least, forcing the league's hand to making a choice between doing SOMETHING about this clown they call an umpire OR publicly stating that the umpire was correct.   There is no room for an umpire calling this "my field".

my guess is that the comeuppance u might be seeking will be in the form of no playoff assignments whatsoever, which will end the streak of having a DS, or LCS, or WS every year since 2018.

seems like that was the punishment for another pitcher incident in the past in May of 2022 which was a lot earlier in the year when that happen.

I would imagine MLB does not want this situation and negative publicity, especially happening only a month before post season, to possibly be on the tip of every announcers tongue to mention and talk about, before the start of every game of a post season assignment if they were to be chosen for a playoff assignment.

now an umpire/former sheriff tackling a streaker in April for running on the field, would be an entirely different situation for not wanting to possibly take the fans minds off the coming post season.

and you had the call mentioned in this article below in the LCS in 2005 and then no playoffs again whatsoever until a one game wild card in left field in 2014 then until a DS in 2018.

so lets be fair. where are all those videos and articles, especially videos of professional umpires of amateur players from college on down that are less than as umpires so we can compare and talk about them.
