I know Evans is far more experienced than I, and I do respect him.  I must be missing something though, because that just sounds dumb.  We know the most common "trouble spot" for a BU is the pulled foot from C, so why are we intentionally going to "C-minor" and routinely putting ourselves in a bad spot so as to avoid a freak occurrence of being blocked by a mis-positioned BU?  We are giving up BOTH distance AND angle.

Because PU has the subsequent play at 3B in pro mechanics (and CCA, for that matter.)

It's true. Older graphic...but I don't think it has changed.

It has not changed in the CCA. It's the first thing that's always discussed in my college two man pre game...." Ball stays on the infield, BU has it all" 

FWIW, The "new" FED manual doesn't have PU covering 3B on balls in the infield. 

PU is responsible for

1.Calling the pitch

2. All fair foul calls

3.Fly balls in your area of the outfield

4. Slides at second base on potential double plays

5. R1 advancing from first to third on any batted ball to the outfield.

You're right, it hasn't changed in CCA. PU has had 3B for about the past six years now.
