Play at Plate, F2 Relocates From Expected Place, R2 Slides in Fair Territory

This is where the preparation is defied by the play. The PU (Miller… I checked, didn’t guess) goes to the prescribed position, but the play alters so rapidly that any movement from him risks him either getting in the way, or in-motion while crucial things are happening. Perhaps he could have stepped to his left, towards point-of-plate, and he might have seen the tag (mitt) miss R2 completely… but again, the play changed so rapidly. These MLB guys function at an out-of-our-realm speed. 

And, very important, the MLBU guys have the benefit of video review to aid – not replace – them. 
 

Oh, and MLBU guys don’t put their hands in their pockets during plays, and this PU certainly didn’t either.

If he had his hand in his pocket he would have got the call right. That's the only thing I would suggest. Not much he could actually do.

That is so true.

Great running adjustment (a slight one at that) by Taylor made a vanilla call super challenging. With the benefit of the replay at the end of the video, it actually looks like Miller is trying to move closer to POP, but stops because he knows he'll need to make the call before he gets there.
