Greetings brothers,

I had some cage time today. One of the things my association works on in the cage are uncaught 3K calls. Today, I used the mechanic I have been using for a few years now which is...Ripping the phone book, calling strike three followed by a safe sign and calling no catch...no catch. One of the instructors said NOT to rip the phone book on an uncaught 3rd strike because the batter will think they are out. His instructions were...hammer the third strike, call strike three, give the safe sign and call no catch...no catch. Thoughts, please?

I like the current (if it still is) MLB mechanic of right arm point and whatever verbal is needed for the sit. That calls the strike and indicates no catch all together. I was told a college clinic wanted the safe signal.

Our association's desired mechanic is calling the third strike, giving the safe sign, then pointing to 1B. No vocal declaration.
