Vinegar also works great as a substitute for fabric softeners.

I've had mine for a year, and they are fading slightly. Keep in mind that I'm in the sun-overwhelmed state of Arizona, but I make it a point to wash them in nothing besides a technical soap. Drycleane

Another side note... a spray bottle 1/2 to 3/4 full of vinegar, then the rest with water, makes a great ant killer. It may not be instant all the time. But it is much easier to not be bothered by the smell of vinegar than it is for bug spray.
