Question

I have 2 questions

1-- batter hits the ball down the 3rd base--the ball takes a bounce hitting the base line and the 3rd baseman moves into foul territory--the ball bounces into fair territory and the 3rd baseman stretches his arm and catches the ball in fair territory while he is standing in foul territory.  What's the call---foul or fair?

2-- same scenario except the fielder is standing in fair and he stretches his arm and catches the ball in foul territory?

Fair or foul is determined by where the ball.is when touched. Fielder's feet positioning don't matter

Let me add, just because some still get confused by that -- it's whether the ball is OVER fair or foul territory that determines whether the ball is fair or foul.

Just to add....the above holds for bounding balls that have not passed the 1B or 3B bag. If the fielder is behind the bag, fair/foul is determined by where the ball is when it passes the bag. Any part of a bounding ball over any part of the bag is a fair ball.
