I've become a fan of MLBTV. I have it on even if not paying attention while doing other things. Some of the things I find interesting in watching some of the mechanics umpires use to have. Like how they would get right in the play being 3' away when making their call and things like that.

The other night there was a show on and I was cleaning so was barely paying attention so I don't know the show, game or anything else, The film was black and white and not that good so I have to assume the 1930's or earlier. But a guy hit a walk off home run and was being mobbed by his team as hes making his way home. The plate umpire grabbed the batter and was pushing other players aside to "help" the guy touch home. And he was being somewhat aggressive about it too. That would never happen today. I got a laugh out of it.

Like how they would get right in the play being 3' away when making their call and things like that.

I noticed this too, very disconcerting. I haven't seen anything as old as the '30's, I'll have to keep and eye out for that.

I got a new HD box the other day(HDMI) and I had some extra channels which included the MLB channel. I was very happy. I came home the next day and it was gone. So you can just quit rubbing in the fact you have the B) channel. Just kidding. :hi5:

I too have become an MLB channel junkie.....I have noticed that the umpires from the 50's for sure are way too close to the play for modern mechanics.........I have a hard time seeing how they could see the "whole play" so close to the play....

And they seem to call the play so very quickly.........

Amazing how the mechanics, positioning, and timing have changed over the years, isn't it? And here we all are, standing on the shoulders of those old goofy looking guys who used to show up in starched shirt, tie, and dress coat to do a game in Philadelphia in August! God bless them all!
