OBR Trips w/ FED reentry

What are the instances where a pitcher could not return to pitch in the same game under a game played under OBR trips, but FED reentry?

In OBR a pitcher can only return if he remains in the game in another defensive position.  So he he went to the bench he cannot return to pitch.

Also cannot return if he was remove by rule (2nd visit in an inning).

At least that's what I'd expect.

That's what I would expect. I could be wrong. In OBR you can't re-enter at all of course, and a pitcher can only return once per inning and naturally only if he remains in the game. I just interpolate it to he has to remain to be able to return to pitch.

Mix rules - get a situation where you have to invent another rule to cover it

Rich is right -- you're inventing something no matter what you do.

As I mentioned to you privately, I'd allow re-entry for that player, but not to the mound.   If he's removed from the pitching position by rule, he can't come back to pitch -- that includes 2 trips.

I think maybe it depends on whether the rules are "FED, except OBR on trips to the mound" or "OBR, except FED re-entry."

 

So, take a play where starting F1 pitches 2+ innings, and is then replaced during the first visit with S1 (and the starter goes to the bench).  Under the former rules (FED, except...), I'd allow F1 to reenter in the 4th inning to pitch -- he wasn't replaced because of excess visits, and that's (one of) the FED restriction.  I would not allow F1 to return to pitch under OBR if he leaves the game.

 

In either case, if the pitcher is removed on the second visit to the mound (in an inning), then I would not allow him to return to pitch.

Is there a limitation to the number of innings which can elapse before a pitcher may return to the mound?  Example - player pitches the 4th and 5th innings complete, then takes LF in the 6th and remains there.  Then later in the middle of the 8th, could he come in to pitch?  i don't see anything in OBR indicating anything against this, except maybe the comment about how the pitcher can only go to another position once in an inning or subsequent inning.

He can only switch once per inning.  He can pitch for as many innings as he wants (subject to any league limits, etc.) and he can play the field as many innings as he wants.
