So lately I've been going to the gym b/t 2-4 nights a week depending on my childrens' homework load.

I am an Orioles fan and try to first get a piece of equipment with a TV on it and then try to put it on an O's game, but if not any baseball game I can find. At home I have DirectTV and if nothing else I put it on MLB Network. Even if it's just background noise while I am doing something else. At the gym, they have a selection of 20-30 over the air HD channels. One is MASN who regularly broadcasts O's & Nationals games. Not that the O's have been much to watch lately, but I've found myself watching some of the Nats games.

OMG their announcers are horrible. Not Buck or Harrelson awful, but just mind-numbingly boring. The color guy Santangelo sounds like a 12 year old and makes comments that I would expect from a 12 year old. Last week when talking about not getting a pitch called (which their own little strike-zone tracker showed as a ball) he said something to the effect of 'That's when you let the next one hit the umpire.'

Then awkward silence...

Santangelo then says to the play by play guy, Bob Carpenter (who is okay) "Come on that's when you have to give the obligatory announcer laugh, so everybody knows I was kidding."

Another brief silence then they went on talking about obligatory announcer laughs. Which was more mindless dribble.

I have to think there are many hundreds or thousands of people who could be brighter, more relevant and more entertaining.

Not that the announcers for the O's are great. Actually Jim Palmer irks my nerves very much, but this is just painful.

I've always been pretty happy with Brewers announcers - Brian Anderson and Bill Schroeder are pretty knowledgeable, Brian Anderson is a national guy and misses quite a few games for TBS, but overall the FS-WI crew is good.

And of course on radio, we get Mr. Baseball Harry Doyle..  I mean Bob Uecker.

And then I watch Cardinal games on FS-MW and just wow, their announcers are terrible.

I watch most of my baseball online, and occasionally I find myself "stuck" watching a Nats game on their feed either because they are the only game on or playing a team I want to watch (but can only get their feed).  I almost find myself disagreeing with the sentiment that they aren't Buck or Harrelson bad.  These guys show well below what I would consider minimal knowledge of the game (and I don't set the bar for announcer knowledge very high) amd have a distinct lack of any on air personality beyond disagreeing with any call that goes against the nats and insulting the umpires at every opportunity they have.  I watch the Tigers and Blue Jays a lot and am for the most part pretty happy with them.

Joe Simpson (Braves) drives me crazy because he is constantly doubting the umpires, disagreeing with their strike zones, and in general putting them down. I'm guessing he's never umpired a game in his life because he talks nonsense. He goes on and on (mostly in a bored monotone voice) and I just wish he'd shut up.

The Red Sox have Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy. Remy used to be awful with rules knowledge. They have either bought him a rule book and tested him on it or my ears are becoming numb from listening to him.

Word is that Orsillo will not be back for next season - he is good and I expect him to get a job with FOX or someone. He is used during the playoffs and WS on a regular basis (even if the Sox make it), but he doesn't get the Sox playoff games.
