Guys,

I am looking for some advice on hats?  I have a lot of trouble finding hats that fit and can be creased.  I have bought Richardson hats which never quite fit well, 7 1/4 just a tad too snug, 7 3/8 always too big.  I have tried flexfit hats from Adams (which I like but are hard to find consistently) and Cliff Keen, which I do not like.  I'd rather have blank New Era hats which four and six stitches but have been unable to locate those.  Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.  At this time I am only needing black hats.

Richardson is the undisputed king of umpiring hats right now. I don't even have another brand right now.

I wear a peanut sized 7. Sometimes they don't fit. I wash the hats in warm water and dry in a dryer when they are too loose. So far that works for me. When too snug I just get a shorter haircut.  Haha. Really I get the hat wet with a spray bottle and just stretch the band with my hands. Careful, I've ripped a couple doing that with too much force. Just a bunch of little tugs. A small amount of stretch at a time.

Creasing is easy. By hand. Then a wet washcloth and a very hot iron over front side and back side of the crease to set it.

As for finding other brands like New Era. I have no experience or suggestions.

Good luck.

6 7/8 for me if it's a consolation. Honestly though they often are quite inconsistent. I have 7's that are perfect and 7's that are way too big.

I have 6 7/8's that are perfect for the plate and 6 7/8's that squeeze my brains out. Depends on the production run?

I just ordered two new Richardson flex fit large/ x-large hats, now you guys are making me concerned......

Flexfit is great for the bases.  It doesn't work for the plate (it is too loose and your mask will slide down)
