Visits to the mound

So occasionally I have this pop up in a game where a coach comes out to the mound and makes a pitcher change, as one pitcher exits and the new pitcher comes in coach always hands off the ball, might say something quick and then exits stage left so to speak.  On occassion the coach lingers for more than a few moments to the point I need to break them up to get the game rolling.  I've had an opposing coach ask if the other coaches lingering constituted a visit with that pitcher.   My answer, which he bought was that since he hadn't left the mound yet it was still charged as a visit to the previous pitcher.  All my leagues play OBR.  Any input or is this more or less the right way to handle it?

Think of a visit as an interruption of play. You call time, coach comes out. The interruption has a defined end point, when play by rule ought to resume.

An additional visit occurs only if coach overstays or extends the interruption. Don't charge one without warning, though.

From OBR 5.10(l)--old rule 8.06:

A manager or coach is considered to have concluded his visit to the mound when he leaves the 18-foot circle surrounding the pitcher's rubber.

From Wendelstedt's rules interpretation manual (p. 46):

A manager or coach may remain with his substitute pitcher when he is already at the mound to remove the previous pitcher, but must return to the dugout at the completion of his warm-up pitches.

I sometimes have to prompt a coach to choose his replacement F1 and get him started warming up. "Coach you can talk to him while he's throwing his 8". Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
