I'm in C tonight. Men's league.  R2.  Pitcher turns to throw to 2B.  While his non-pivot foot was still raised and his back to the plate, he stopped, then started falling AWAY from 2B and tossed the ball over.  Then he planted his non-pivot foot.

I think he's talking about the IITBTSB acronym.

And, Tim C. would say that when the moved "started falling AWAY from 2B" that committed him to home, so this is a balk for failing to pitch and not a balk to second base.

IITBTSB is NOT the same as IITB when intending to attempt a pickoff.

Can the less experienced and educated among us get an explanation of all these acronyms?

Can the less experienced and educated among us get an explanation of all these acronyms?

There was a conversation a while back about it being "impossible" to balk when the pitcher throws to an occupied second base.  The reality is that, while not impossible, it's pretty darn difficult.  The acronym was It's Impossible To Balk To Second Base "IITBTSB."  Someone then added, It's Impossible To Balk To an Occupied Second Base "IITBTOSB."

Some of these acronyms are better established than others!  There is a thread on this board with acronyms:  http://umpire-empire.com/index.php?/topic/4391-common-acronyms/ and these are actually in there.
