Tonight was opening night for a local wreck ball team, 13u, 75/55.

R1 only and HT catcher throws to 2nd and was just a little late to catch the stealing R1. F6 fields it, applies the tag, and I signal safe. He then tosses me the ball. I jumped up and spread my legs to let it fall below me. The pitcher was alert enough to grab it quickly. R6 apologies several times saying "I'm sorry, that's what we do in practice." He looked rather embarrassed.

I couldn't help but laugh.

...and it was unusual enough I felt the need to share.

R2, me in C. Foul ball and F2 tries to throws dead ball back to F1. F1 misses and ball goes towards me. All the dumb-ass parents are yelling for R2 to run. I pick up the ball jump-spin with my arm cocked, ready to throw R2 out....Partner and I thought it was funny. Teaching newbie parents dead ball...one of the many services I provide.

I had this happen to me when I took a chance once and did men's slow pitch.  Play was over and had the guy panic, look around, and underhanded the ball right to me.  Hit me right in the chest.  I asked him what he was doing and both teams were laughing their asses off.  Good fun.

I've been known to take my hat off and scoop up a screamin' foul ball while in A, turn and fire it right back to the pitcher........in men's league.....not a HS game.   They love it when an umpire shows some athleticism.  :P
