New LL UIC

Hi there, been lurking here the past month or so. I've been recruited to be the new UIC/scheduler for our little league in Northern California. I started umpiring when I was thirteen, and did it pretty regularly up until I was 22. Now that I have kids in the league I umpired a handful of games last year, including some of the all-star and TOC games. Apparently that was enough (and/or I was the only one stupid enough to tell them yes ) after the former UIC retired. Looking forward to getting back into umpiring again, and working on upgrading my gear, as it turns out that the CP that provided excellent coverage as a teenager doesn't cover quite as much as it used to now that I'm 30.

I'm pretty sure most of us asked some stupid/repetitive questions when we started. So keep asking and learning and don't feel to bad.

@webspinnre , welcome. Good luck with being the UIC. It can be a lot of work and sometimes irritating, be overall can be a very rewarding postion.

I think the best thing you can do to help yourself as UIC is make sure ALL of your umpires are on this site regularly, and make sure you train WITH them regularly. Have fun!

Just got back from doing a scrimmage with 3 teenagers who volunteered. They did a pretty good job, while I was able to just float and advise. Next week we've got a game where I'll be behind the plate and they'll take the bases.

I just became the Head Umpire/Assignor for our local Pony league. I work 2-4 Pinto Western games a week with the young kids so I can train them. It is nice to work with them and teach them the art of umpiring. Welcome to the fold. You will enjoy it here. Games worked 40
