In a run down situation in 2 man mechanics which umpire makes the out/safe call?   I was BU at the time but my PU made the call at the same time I did.  Luckily it was the same call.

a little more info  on your sitch please.

Most of the time the play would be split in half with one umpire getting one end and the other taking the back side.  If the play happens right in the middle grey area this is where timing comes intl play.  Communicate verbally or non verbally( eye contact ) on who  will make the call .  There could be exceptions to this  for example r 3 between home and 3rd play happens closer to third but the tag is on the chest and all the BU sees is the r3's back, with good timing and some communication the pu could make the call that the bu can't see.

The plate umpire has the area from the cutout to the base.  The base umpire has the rest of the rundown.  If it's a gray area - make eye contact.  Use some common sense, if the tag is where you can see it, you take it...if the tag is where your partner can see it, he takes it (tag on the back vs. tag on the chest).

I'll add on a bit.....   If you're the PU entering into the situation, you want to wait until the runner is going away from you to announce "I GOT THIS END" or some such phrase.   After that, anyone who sees the tag should make the call.   As said above, there are times when one will see the tag but the other is blocked.  Whoever sees it definitively makes the call.

That's textbook right there.

I'll just add: when the runner is in front of your partner, help him with OBS and 3-foot calls. He's focusing on tags and action with the ball, so you can help with the rest.

Never make a call on a rundown without glancing at your partner. Tap your chest to take it, or say, "I got it," or something. What's the rush? If he's out, he ain't gonna become safe in the .8 seconds it takes you guys to work out who's taking the call.

I was taught that the umpire in the direction  the runner is going makes the call.

If the runner is 10 feet in front of you and then turns to come to me, and the fielder tags him on his back where I can't see it, you still want me to take it and guess from 80 feet away?

Depending on where the runner gets pickled, I announce, "I have this end" or "I have this half." If he's cooser to his TOP base, I take half.if he's over halfway, I take the end.

I've never had a double call on a pickle. When you're working with experienced partners, and you work well together, I guess some things just come natural.

you're thinking foul fly balls between A and HP.The direction the DT player who caught the ball is facing dictates who makes the out call (among other things)
