Last night: C division Women's softball, I'm working 1B. Bottom 7th, two on, two outs. I'm not focused, ready to get off the field and go scorekeep. Time is called and my mind kind of wanders and I find myself staring back at an equally distracted 3B umpire on the next field over whom, um, I might have a little bit of an affinity for, if you get what I mean. I don't hear time in and silly me thinks the bat pop is for another field because of that. Then the other umpire gasps and a mis-thrown ball hits me right in the small of the back, sending me forward a few steps. (Thanks for the heads up.)

HPU screams "RK! Stop eyeballing your coworkers and get your head in the game!"

Thought you could all get a kick out of my distraction. I'm alright, just embarrassed.
