LL Jr tournament game last week. VT manager, who I've seen before, is a loud and vocal guy who spends the majority of his time yelling at his kids and rarely compliments them for making a good play or good decision. My opinion is that this guy shouldn't be anywhere near a youth baseball team, let alone coach them. Ironically, he's never given me any problems on calls. On this day his team wasn't playing well early, so his switch is on early. Finally, around the 5th inning, he's coaching third and he's all over his player at bat because he couldn't get a bunt down. Well, his dugout coach (1B dugout) starts screaming at him across the diamond "Let them play! Just let them play!" He starts screaming back at his coach, delaying the game for about 30 seconds. I'm at B, stunned, trying to figure out what to do if these guys start fighting. Luckily they shut it down, but I've never seen this before and wondering if anyone has had to deal with friendly fire like this?

Maybe you should hace searched for a way to throw out a that head coach so his dugout coach who clearly was a good coach could take over

We have a coach like this. I look for a reason to toss him every time I have him. He never says boo to the umpires.

Parents shouldn't heckle the umpires in between innings. Umpires shouldn't heckle parents in between innings..."I can't believe anyone would let their kid near that guy"..."I wouldn't let that guy walk my dog, let alone coach my kid"...Shouldn't.

I partially blame the park associations for allowing these coaches on the field.

We have one of these knuckleheads in a rec league. Always yelling. It got so bad this year, I got called to do his last 5 games. I had my best partner in all of them, and everyone there knew why we were there. The first 3 games went off with out a hitch. I actually enjoyed watching him sitting on pins and needles.

In the fourth game, two runs scored on PB/WP (hard to tell the difference with 10 yo) and as the kids are coming off the field he starts yelling and screaming at the top of his lungs. I'm walking from C to SRF when I hear "Those last two runs are on you!" Immediately, I turned around ready to toss, and he's pointing at this nine y/o kid who's got years just rolling down his face. I snapped...

Me- Dale (name changed to protect this idiot), knock it off!

Dale- I was talking to my kids.

M- I don't care... You're not going to yell at these kids like that on my field. Understood?

He gave me a weak yes sir. I started back towards SRF and his parents and fans start clapping. I'm thinking oh great, I just pissed everyone off. Then they started saying thanks blue, he's been like that all year, I'm glad some one finally got him to shut it etc.

Yes, I know I overstepped my duties as an umpire. I just couldn't take it anymore. These kids are supposed to be having fun and learning a game, not be scared of making a mistake.

Anyway, this guy doesn't get the point. A inning and a half later he starts yelling across the field at the opposing coach about an IBB. Gets warned and you guessed it gets tossed because he doesn't know how to keep his trap shut.

People like this shouldn't be around kids, plain and simple.

Sometimes your duty as a human HAS to supercede your duty as an umpire.

He'd be gone for that if it was me.  You said he was all over his player, if in my judgement he was in any way demeaning, derogatory - said anything to upset that kid he's gone, and Im reporting him to Little League who has very strict rules about behavior of those who in any way represent Little league and act this way.  I may even turn to the Asst and the batter and say your'e welcome, loud enough to make it known to them why he was ejected.  And it would certainly be reported locally.

Parents who sit quietly and allow their kids to be bullied enable these kind of jerks.

Sometimes your duty as a human HAS to supercede your duty as an umpire. If a coach is being a "richard"(see what i did there) to his players thats unsportsman like, so it would fall under an umpire's duties
