Huge travel ball tourney.

 

I am standing with other umpires waiting for a set of games to end  (near a concession stand where you can see 4 fields at once).  We are all dressed in our gear and casually chatting.

 

On one of the fields, the HP umpire calls a strike at the knees.  

 

One of the dads just starts laying into him.

 

"That is brutal, you have been terrible all day, how can you call that".

 

He then turns around to see 10 umpires glaring at him. 

 

Guy's face turns ghostly white.  No more chirping from him.

Worked a tournament in my grandparents town, and my grandpa came down to enjoy the day of ball and watch me/hangout between games.

One particular game a fella was giving me the business, and asked my grandpa if he thought I was playing favorites bc I "knew people" and awful. Grandpa said no he knew I wasn't playing favorites because I didn't know a single person there besides him.

Shut the guy up real fast.

until your partner gets hurt and the coaches ask one of your buddies to fill in
