So earlier this year, i had a brand new pair of zig plate shoes tear up. The protective top came off where it attaches to the front of the shoe. Finally contacted reebok, they say they dont sell any of these direct so I cannot get a replacement pair. Only thing they can do is reebok gift card or credit on reebok site for the purchase amount. Im fine with all that, even though id rather have another pair of shoes. But if they don't have them, where do they come from?

More positive experience than I have been through in a lot of places.

@goindeep - Two things:

A) Where did you get that pair of Reebok Zigs plate shoes from in the first place? That's where you should try to interact with first. Reebok, like other equipment manufacturers, will not sell specialty equipment directly because it's a matter of 1) overhead and 2) liability. Plate shoes are so specialized, and the market so small, it wouldn't make any profitable sense for Reebok to carry them in their domestic warehouses. So, they supply all plate shoes to other distribution, wholesale and retail channels. Then, they essentially "write them off", relying on those channels to handle any Quality or Warranty issues. Now, certain channels handle it better than others (and some, not at all), but if you contact Reebok directly, they can only do so much.

I would try contacting the retailer / distributer you got the Zigs from (Zappos? Amazon? Billy Boy's Baseball Bonanza?) first. If they can't do much for you or are non-responsive, then consider topic "B" below, or try to find another pair of Zig plate shoes at another retailer / distributer with a better customer service reputation. Purchase them, and immediately send back the damaged/defective ones in the same box. It may sound shyster-y, but they (Reebok and the retailers) have allowances for this. Otherwise, purchase the new plate shoes, and accept Reebok's SiteCredit to get other Reebok shoes / gear / etc.

B) I'm unfamiliar with how Reebok Zig plate shoes attach the front (bottom) of the metatarsal lid / plate / cover / guard, but there _may_ be a fix that a cobbler (shoe repair) or athletic equipment repair place can attempt, so as to reattach that guard. I know that here in Milwaukee, we have a place called exactly that – Athletic Equipment & Repair – that does all the football, hockey, baseball, etc. gear reconditioning and repair for all the area schools, the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks and Admirals. They have industrial-grade sewing machines, the likes of which can probably fabricate a tent in a few minutes. Find a place like that in your region... I'm sure there is one. They may be able to rig up something so the metatarsal guard is reattached and you never notice the difference. Heck, they might even improve it.

I had this happen to my first pair of zig plates, I never contacted Reebok about it but I just went to home depot and picked up some glue and Velcro and Velcro'd them the plate on and it has worked great for 8+ months without any issues. I originally tried going to a cobbler but they said they couldn't reattach it because of the protective plate.

I'll post some pictures later today.
