Gerry Davis plate shoe?

Been out of umping for 10 years just getting back. What happened to Gerry Davis plate shoes? Also don't even want to ask about pluspos? Lol thanks.

Well, they weigh about twice as much as modern shoes, and have been left in the dust. I donated mine to the local LL park, and had to use them recently when an umpire bailed, and I was in the neighborhood. At the time, back in "the day", they were to notch, and really prudy. Now, they're boat anchors. +POS are the same deal. Once you put on either the Reeboks or New Balance, there's no going back.

 

You're in for a real treat when you go to the new shoes. Enjoy. The trade off in looks (yeah, IMO the +POS low tops are still the best looking shoes ever made) are well worth the comfort and performance gains.

donated both pairs of my old +POS plate shoes to new umpires...............@kylejt nails it............todays modern examples have our old plate shoes beat by a mile............I wear the reeboks now and would never go back.......

Not just shoes--virtually everything is lighter, better-fitting, more protective. Well, maybe plate brushes and indicators are the same.

Ordered the all black zigs for plates. Wearing nike diamond trainers in filed now cause I got them at dicks sporting goods.

Had all pluspos stuff. Plastic mask, big hard plastic chest protector that looked like I had a bra on, my shins were the plus pos flat ones with the plates that wrapped around my leg. Gave it all away. Now I have all diamon lightweight cause that's what my boss gave me and had no equipment. Gonna take out of my check. Got cliff clean combo pants and shirt. Clicker is different cause balls are on top now.
