Hello,

I coached fastpitch for 3 league seasons niece moved up and the league didn't have senior division so decided to umpire to stay close to the game. I will be umpiring my first tournament this next weekend any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site. As we always tell guys, don't suck. Remember that timing is everything in umpiring, it is nothing until you call it. On the bases, let the play finish so you know it is as you saw it. No ball on the ground and the runner stayed on the base. On the plate, watch the pitch all the way to the glove.

Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2

Had a very nice chat with Rook. He really wants to learn. He's working fast pitch softball. Would any of you softball guys be willing to step up and help him out? Welcome to the site. There is lots of good information here.

Best wishes!

welcome to the site and the avocation!..................biggest piece of advice I can give is get training..............you have taken a big leap and it this isnt Kansas anymore......lol....there are so many resources avalable these days, this site being one of the best.........

Its imperative that you get training at the earliest stages of your umpire career......@mstaylor and I have always stated that we wished there were these types of resources available when we started......

Best of luck!...let us know what we can do to help........

called the finals and champioship games in the 10under "c" was on bases for the first game and behind the dish for the second. Had a coach try to argue with me shut him down quick. outside of not have a big enough strike zone given the age group and being loud and conifdent i was told i did pretty good

Keep the same strike zone the entire game and the coaches will sometimes see if they can get to you because you are new to their league. When talking to the coaches use the same tone of voice and do not shout or holler. Make your point and keep a normal tone to your voice level when doing so. Never get mad and lose control of the situation. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
