The announcers were spouting baseball myths and inaccuracies again. First they tried he had it long enough, no such thing. Then they went with he dropped it on the exchange. He never attempted to exchange or remove the ball. He caught the ball but when he hit the ground it popped partially out of his glove, then as he moved to tag the base it finished coming out. Then he tried throwing the BR out and threw it away.

So in actuality he made a heck of an attempt, it got away from him, then he commits an error on the throw. Then Ventura gets himself tossed because he doesn't have any more idea about the rules than the announcers.

A quote from the preeminent expert on all things baseball, with a speciality in rules knowledge - if you don't believe me, just ask him yourself... Hawk: Well, there's a play right there, next year will be reviewed, no question about it. And it'll be over-turned. I think that's a comment that if it was anyone but the CWS team would be reviewed and over-turned! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

In this case, I'd say "announcer". The color guy, Steve Stone, tried to get in a word edgewise and say that he dropped it but Hawk wouldn't have none of that darn truthtellin' going on, stepping in immediately and shutting it down with his tired rant. Replay wouldn't have touched that call, way too inconclusive. But the old dinosaur is comforted by the thought that someday soon he will be vindicated. And next year when it doesn't happen it will just be further proof of the conspiracy.

These two have a bit of history. Last year, Stone was much more willing to disagree with Hawk and correct him on-air, and Hawk was FURIOUS! He was an incredible baby, not talking to Stone much - on or off the air - and even sitting something like 20 feet apart, as far away as they could in the booth. They had some sort of blowup in the offseason where Hawk got all butthurt and Stone was told to tamp it down and just be Hawk's mascot. Best color analyst in the business and they've got him muted for this clown.

The radio team is so much better than the tv crew as a whole, but they get much less play, obviously.

On baseball tonight last night one of the announcers (I think it was Barry Larkin) said it was a catch because "he made a baseball move" by trying to get the out at third...

What will be funny , next year, is when all of the announcers heads explode when a call is NOT overturned and they can't/don't understand why!  :WTF  :rollinglaugh:

Clearly, the incompetence of the replay official will be exposed.

:yippie:  It will be funny to see many calls not getting reversed. I have always contended the pros get more right than not, they actually pretty dang few. However, when they miss, they miss big. I'm an O's fan, I can tell you a story of a boy in the outfield. :) But the fact is  replay is not going to the panacea they believe it to be. This play is a prime example of one that looks odd but is called exactly correct.

@FlaUmp22, a baseball move? I guess the myth list needs an addition.

And..................  Yet another call not reversed on replay!

Ok, I suggest a compromise for MLB. The talking heads, on behalf of the uneducated masses, want replay to keep the umpires in check. Then the announcers should have to complete a umpiringThat is the perfect thing for Evans to do with his school.
