When your Uic say that a coach/manager said you were a wonderful umpire no issues at all. I was very pleasent surprise by a coach this weekend. I had some very close calls just for 8u saturday.

 

 

1. Was a ball over fair/foul i called it fair as the fielder was under the line and i believe it would of hit the line if she was not there.

 

2. I called an out on a close play at second base

 

3. I called safe on miss tag in one of the games.

 

I love how manager/coach say something nice about you.

Careful here - it's fair/foul based on the position of the ball relative to the line (extended upward) at the moment it was touched.  Where you think it would hit the ground has no bearing.

No they didn't

 

Edit: really i know how to call fair or foul you try to do that when the ball still in the air and right over the line with the fielder reaching for it up. One of the diffuclt calls possible.

 

Edit 2: He didn't agree with all my calls either he even told the other said he thought one of there runners was safe but it was not a knock on me. He said i had bang bang calls that could of gone both ways.  I called and out on runner going out of base line and he wanted me to call obusrtion she was way to far out for me to even consider obusrtion.

Probably the most believable time I've been complimented on my umpiring by a coach after a game I called, was when I ejected one of his players when he only had eight. The call turned what was something like a 6-4 lead into a 9-0 forfeit loss. He wasn't happy about the call but agreed it was the right call, and thanked me a little later when I was signing the scoresheet for having "... the most consistent zone we've had all season."

 

And before anyone mentions sarcasm or anything like that, I'm a parking ranger in non-baseball life: I know when I get a genuine compliment and when someone's having a go at me.

Parking police / inspectors / officers / rangers... We book cars that are illegally parked. And because I'm pretty sure our fines are more expensive in (at least parts of) Australia than compared with the U.S. - the cheapest we issue for basic stuff is $101 - we're even more loved here than elsewhere in the world.

I'm confused.  You have an out for being out of the base path, ok so someone is there with the ball ready to make a tag and the runner left the 3 foot lane.  Got that.

 

But then you go on to say she was way to far out for an OBS call.  How could you have OBS if someone is there WITH the ball?

 

It's a warm fuzzy thing to hear them rave about you, but if your going to take those compliments to heart then it only makes sense that you have to take their rat like rants as well.  It's no different than balls and strikes.  If your going to allow them to sit back and take shots at you about what THEY think of a strike zone then there isn't a whole lot  you can say to them because you have allowed them to run the game.

 

In the end I always say the same thing to any coach at the end of the day.  "Thanks Frank, we enjoyed having your game today", no matter how the game was.  Exit stage left.

First, if you beleive them when they tell you that you are great, you have to beleive them when they tell you that you suck.

 

Secondly, how does a fielder get under the line?
