Hello everyone,

I'm Matt, from Sioux Falls, SD. I have been reading over this site for a couple of months now and figure it was probably time to actually join. I love the huge variety of topics covered on here about one of my favorite activities in the world, umpiring. I have been umpiring baseball since 2008. I actually got my start in umpiring in softball when I was 12 years old, did that for five years, and then apparently got too cool for it. Boy, do I wish I would have switched to baseball then, as opposed to what I actually did, which was getting into baseball umpiring after an eight year hiatus. Oh well, such is life. I do a variety of levels, including VFW, Legion, High School, and Amatuer. I would love nothing more than to go to school and try to break into pro ball, but I have two young boys, ages seven and four, so I don't think the road life would suit me. So, instead I'll have to be content doing whatever games come my way here in the greater Sioux Falls metro area. On a side note, if anyone resides in the South Dakota/Minnesota/Nebraska/Iowa area and knows how to get into college ball let me know. I've been asking around to some of the assignors and such, but haven't gotten very far, and I would really like to try my hand at moving up in the umpire ranks.

Welcome as far as college ball goes, attend a camp or two and you'll surely find what your looking for. Rich might be able to help you out of Wisconsin too!

I have a bunch of family in Sioux Falls.  In fact, my cousin's husband umpires up there.  PM me and I can give you some suggestions.
