Urgent: Reasonable to have coaches evaluate umpires?

Umpire-Empire locks topics which have not been active in the last year. The thread you are viewing hasn't been active in 4833 days so you will not be able to post. We do recommend you starting a new topic to find out what's new in the world of umpiring.

You can only answer the original question by first asking "what is the purpose of this evaluation?"

If its to help the umpires improve then of course they cant do that.  They don't know enough about it.

If its to help with post season assignments then of course it can help. (its really more of a ranking system than an evaluation system).

Thanks, everyone, for your input.  It was very helpful.

I just mailed my ballot.  I'd rather not say here which candidate I chose, but if you are dying to know, PM me.

Meanwhile, the general thread on coach evaluations can and should of course continue, if others want to weigh in.

Does your state ask coaches to rank guys when it comes to playoffs assignments.  For years in New Mexico in addition to associations nominating who they wanted to send to State Finals, the coaches had votes as well.  If your state allows coach input for assigning finals may be worth it to have them "evaluate" you during the year as well.
