Can't say I blame him for not running him over.

I've started preaching that the days of running over an F2, even in the bigs, is coming to an end. The guys behind the plate are way to important to their teams now. Think about how many collisions you have seen this year. I would be willing to wager the answer is nit many.

Also notice West's mechanics here this makes this a good video for umpiring education purposes.

 

West reads this as a collision play and takes a step or two to his left to get the proper angle. We preach time and again 3BLX as the place to be for most calls, but on collision plays many times 1BLX can be best.
