I considered it voluntary release when he transferred the ball from his glove to his throwing hand. And, according to JohnnyG, this is how it was explained at the NCAA meeting. So either a bunch of NCAA assignors/evaluators are wrong, or......

Yes.  It was caught in his glove and released voluntarily into his throwing hand, then dropped when he hit the wall.  Like Troy said, by rule it is a catch.

I'm gonna say no it doesn't. What did Yeast say?

It was concluded that the run doesn't count since the BR was retired before acquiring 1B with 2 outs.  

 

Some people said that since the BR passed first he is assumed to have acquired the base and it's like any other appeal, which would be a time play.
