I'm BU. R2, stealing on the pitch. F2 fires F5. Banger @ 3rd...but the throw was a bit high and R2 just barely gets under the tag. I sell the "Under the tag - SAFE". DHC immediately comes out of the dugout and yells "It's always the same with you!! You NEVER get one right!!!":meditation: He was referencing several an earlier calls at 1B that he did not like.

The most important word he used was "YOU".

Bye coach, enjoy the game from the parking lot.

If he had been smart enough to stay on the bench and chirp that line, I liekly would have let it go with a warning to the bench (that usually draws them out or shuts them up) but since he came out, buh-bye! easy breasy beautiful... so to speak

Did you yell UNDER THE TAG SAFE !! Calling SAFE will do just fine.

On a play where the runner would have been out had the tag been made then It's not a bad idea to add something like " He missed the tag" or " No tag." IMO. Part of selling the call.

He gets no break from me for being a coward and throwing bombs from the bench.

Fair enough, however In my report is it going to say "Someone on the bench said 'It's always the same with you, you never get it right' so I ejected the coach"? I can see any of the 4 associations i work for having a hard time backing that one up, thus the need to identify the culprit in my books

Ever heard that the captain is to blame whether he is on the bridge or not? Bang his butt.

Always better to say "Safe" with nothing more in a situation like this. It was not a situation where additional info is needed when making the call. Safe suffices b/c a tag was made and there was no hidden reason why he was safe. Umpire's judgment made the call, not some strange happening on the play.

When "No tag" is given, it is b/c there is some hidden info as to why an OBVIOUS call was not made. The runner should have been out 10 feet up the line but was called safe. Why?

I never "sell" my call with useless info. I called him safe and that is all "da masses" need to know. They will have their opinions regardless of what I say with it. If the manager needs more info, he can come to me to see why. If he chooses not to, then I guess he was satisfied. If he does what the OP did, then I guess he wasn't and he won't be around to see any more.

Any assoc worth it salt will back that ejection every time.

The ejection is good but renegade is saying there needs to be more clarity on identifying the douche who said it.

And I say it shouldn't. If they want take potshots from the bench and you aren't sure who it is, get the coach. There are three ways to handle it, tell whoever said it to fess up or lose a coach, tell the coach pick a player or just dump the coach. Either way, valid toss.

I would never use option 2. If the coach picks a sh!t player than how has that punished the team for bench jockeying?

It shows the dugout that you have had enough and you are going to keep tossing until they shut-up. I saw a guy dump a player for arguing strikes, dumped a player using method method two for chirping, and then dumped the rest of the bench on the next ejection.

In fairness, I had a great opportunity to try the dump the coach when you don"t know who it was method last weekend. After a big series of plays that involved a call with the second baseman being off the bag until he had control, on the 3rd out of that inning i hear a call from the defenses bench bencic "are you sure he wasn't off the bag there blue". Turned, faced the bench and said you are gone coach with appropriate mechanic. Worked like a charm. Not another peep from that bench for the rest of the game
