He is a moron. And I'm calling that a strike in all my games, but that is often a ball at the MLB level. Not a clear strike to argue at any rate...

By the way...Mesoraco got three games for the bump(s). Which is meaningless; because of how the Reds rotate catchers, he wouldn't have played again for three more games anyway. He only catches Homer Bailey and Mike Leake. Hannigan catches everyone else (Cueto, Arroyo and Latos, which are the next three starters).

It's not "meaningless" if you don't get paid....

"We weren't getting many calls, and I want to earn the respect of the players. I don't need the umpires to like me. I'm trying to earn respect in the clubhouse," he said.

He only did it to earn respect, regardless of whether he really thought the pitch was a ball or strike, or the fact that he knows not to argue balls and strikes with the umpire or to show the umpire up or turn around on him. Strictly wanted to show up the umpire to earn respect, regardless of whether what he did was right or wrong.

Unfortunately, the first thing I thought of when I read your post, was that it reminds me of why young people shoot and kill others. Looking for "respect".
