Runner on 3rd 2 outs 2 strikes on batter. Runner breaks for home on the pitch. The pitch is a called strike and pops out of the catchers glove several feet away. The batter had moved out of the box because of the runner stealing home. The runner crosses the plate and after a few seconds the catcher tags the batter for the 3rd out. The umpires counted the run. This should have been a force play with no run scoring, correct?

Incorrect. The batter runner did not reach first base before the third out therefore no run can score.

But yes, that run should not have counted. No different than a ground ball to F6 who throws the batter runner out at 1B for the third out. If R3 crosses home plate before BR is out at 1B, the run does not count b/c the batter runner did not reach 1b before the third out.

Essentially. technically the BR isn't forced but it is treated as such so just roll with. No run scores.
