In Little League pitching rules players are required to have specific "calendar days" of rest depending on the number of pitches thrown. According to Little League International, a

"calendar day" begins at midnight and ends at midnight the following evening. My question is simple. If in a game where pitcher needs one more "calendar day" of rest before becoming eligible to pitch again goes past midnight, does that pitcher become eligible to brought into the game at 12:01AM?

I would say technically yes, however, I can virtually guarantee a call to the regional office to settle it - technical or not.

I can totally see an 'intent of the rule' ruling, rather than a technical ruling here.

I haven't read them for a couple of years, but IIRC, the pitching rest rule is based on start of the game unless the game is suspended. (But don't bet the farm on it -- my son's team wasn't in a tourney where games could go that late, so it was purely an academic interest at the time.)

As suggested by Sdix00, I contacted our regional office. The official interpretation was:

"The official interpretation would have him ineligible at the start of the game therefore unless the game is suspended he would not be eligible until that game is completed even if it is after midnight."

While I agree with that ruling from a safety perspective, I do not think that interp is supported in the rules.

There is no mention of a pitcher having to be eligible at the start of the game in order to pitch. A strict reading suggests that all he as to do is log the number of calendar days of rest.

But the tablet has been etched and delivered from the mount.

Possible to have a game go past midnight but unlikely by curfew rules.

No inning can start after 11pm, 1130 pm for Juniors and Seniors.

Midnight for Big League

We had a game start at 10:00pm on Friday and go until 12:30 am Saturday. My question is, does my pitcher get Saturday as a rest day or did he pitch on Saturday? That's my starter. My relief pitcher came into the game after midnight. So did my relief pitcher throw on Friday since the game started on Friday or did he throw on Saturday?

That's been changed. Not sure of the times but definitely later for the tournament.

What level was it? Majors, Juniors, Seniors, Big League?

If he pitched past mid-night and it was Saturday Morning, he pitched on Saturday and Saturday does not count as a rest day.

Sunday would be the first calander rest day

I haven't heard of any change
