There have been many discussions over the year, here and other boards, discussing getting help. Now I freely admit there are times to get together, check swings, ball on the ground on a tag or placing runners on an award. I have absolutely no problem with these situations. What I have a problem with is guys getting together when it isn't appropriate. BU makes a call at second and the coach wants him to talk to the PU. Same thing at the plate, guys getting together when it your call. There have been situations where the PU makes a call in the outfield, the BU has the touches and the coach wants the BU's opinion on the catch. These are not times to get together, period. I hear umpires say they will get together to appease the coach, even when they know their partner has nothing to give them. This sends the wrong message to the coaches, undermines your credibility and adds needless time to your games.

In 100% agreement. Although I'm going to talk to my partner to see what he thinks.

+1. In the EJ post you commented on, I never should have gone to my partner. In retrospect, I looked very weak there.

I have no problem telling a coach "That's not my call," or "All I can tell you is that the runner from second touched third." I wish more of my partners agreed with me.

No, I understand but I have a big problem with many guys saying to check just to appease a coach. Many believe you should whenever the coach asks.
