Had a game last week. In this league during fall ball each team is allowed 7 runs per inning and 1:30 time limit.

I'm PU. Two BU's. Not a special game or anything, just how it worked out. Good game nothing crazy. Coaches were good, but you could tell both teams wanted to win. So we are in the bottom of the fifth, home team is up 2 with about 10 minutes left. The away catcher says "We need to be quick, not a lot of time left." Of course they get the first two outs in no time, but then he walks bases loaded. I look at my watch and see there is about two minutes left. He goes full on the batter and then time is up, so I call game. As we are having them sign the card the 3rd Base up says "You should have let him finish the AB." I said "Time was up." He goes bat crap nuts! Starts screaming right on the field. I just walk off to change. He follows me screaming about he is the comish of the league and what he says goes,(no it doesn't and no he isn't). I said there are two reasons I called the game. 1. There was no way the vistors could come back, therefore the game was over. To keep playing made no difference. 2. I thought I was preventing an issue because if the next pitch was a strike and then I called game the visiting team coach would go nuts asking why I let them finish an AB that didn't matter. I then walked away and did my next game. The next day I get an email from my boss telling me I should let the batter finish. I told her what really happened and she said that it made sense what I did but going forward I should let him finish. I left sorta pissed that this guy went behind my back and told my boss but I let it go because that night we worked together that night.

He had plate the first game. Visting team was up four or five or six and batting as time expired. If they got to 8 up, the game is over. So runner on third and runner on first. Batter hit a shot into the gap. Runner On third scores runner on first is going to score all the sudden I hear "Game, Line em up!" I turn around and see the same ump who told me not to end a play in the middle of an AB end a game in the middle of a play. But guess what? The home team says "Wait, they are only up 7. We can still tie." At this point you can look on the umps face and see how he just see he screwed up. At this point the visting team manger, who also was the third base coach, comes running in screaming "My runner on third would have scored but you stopped the game!" They argue for a minute but what can we do? So we finish the inning which takes four more batters and 10 minutes.

We are walking off the field he won't make eye contact with me and I take pleasure knowing that karma is a bitch.

baseball is not ment to have a clock--when they put a clock on a game the only one to hear about it is the umpire--not the person who runs the league who wants to get the most game played -in a short period of time--when there is as clock the ump is always the bad guy.

I understand what you are saying but I have more of an issue with the 7 per inning then the clock.

For Abner's sake, it's FALL BALL! I understand that people are competitive an all but geesh. Isn't fall ball supposed to be developmental? You know, where teams have rag tag uniforms and they are more concerned with getting home to watch the MU or KU game?

What you said about if you would have let another pitch go, you could of had the other coach go ape sh!t; that's exactly right. If it's 1:30 drop dead, then that means drop dead. If there was no way for another team to catch up, then so be it kill the game right there. The rules are the rules. Regulation game time was over. Don't play anymore than you have to because you may end up in a pile horse poop.

What you did was right. Unfortunately your assignor is in the WRONG and so is that RAT you had. If I was your partner I'd have your back all the way.

There was no problem with a Rat, I was preventing one from starting.

I agree with the decision to stop the game, but I think I would have let the batter finish the AB. Who cares if the last pitch is a strike, and the visiting coach comes unglued? He's had his fair ups, so he lost, period. (And not to mention, the last pitch helps carry you farther past 1:30:00 on the timer, or whatever you're using, and gives the moaning side less ammunition to complain.)

What I'd like to know - and I'm not trying to be real nasty here - is how did you know time was up with a 3-2 count? I can see knowing there's ten minutes to go when the inning starts, and I can even see checking when that one batter comes to the plate - if I felt like about ten minutes had passed, I'd check, too. But even if I've gotten to the point where two minutes or less are left, then I'm not checking during a player's AB.

But I'm definitely okay with killing the game if the home team is batting, and winning, and I discover the time limit has expired. But I'd rather let a kid finish an AB, and then kill it when play is relaxed - I think you have lower odds of some d-bag getting in your face like that guy did.

Thing is, I'm not sure about this one. Is this a "no new inning" time limit, or a drop-dead one? I know the home team can't win if they're more than seven down, but the type of time limit tells you whether you play that last half or not. Simply: if the rule is "no new inning," then killing the game screws the home team out of an AB, whether they can win or not, and I wouldn't do it. If it's drop-dead, no problem.

Of course, the above is really not the issue, is it? I can't freakin' believe the guy killed the game with a runner still steaming around the bases. Wow.

If the home team is at bat and leading when the time runs out then kill it. If they are trailing and it isn't a drop dead then let the inning finish. If a play is happening no matter the runs per inning or the time, let the play finish then decide the status of the game.
