1. So, whose was worse, Jeter or Kotchman and why.

Situation

Tight game, 8th inning, and this situation happens to the first batter up.

In a 2 man crew, who do you go for to get help on this one. 1BU in A is completely blocked out and no help whatsoever. No need to pacify coach and get help, stick to your call and let the chips fall where they may with a possible ejection.

If you have not had this up and in pitch, hit the bat on the knob or hit the hand with the catcher getting in the way or his glove getting in the way, you have been so lucky or have not worked enough games yet, from games I have watched, and reading about this situation. Managers love this situation and it is a good one for them to get tossed on because they know you definitely could not see due to the catchers glove and your partner cannot help and you got to live and die with the call, right or wrong. And regardless of right or wrong, if he says the wrong thing or starts repeating himself and delays the game too long, its good night Irene.

The ball had to have gone out of play or nearly out of play.

tough call, that's all I'm going to say.

At the right game, a base umpire might be able to hear it off of a BBCOR bat.

I only work 1 wood bat league where it be a bit tougher.

Yup, tough call. But a good one for all of the "instant replay" umpires (announcers).

Sometimes you have to make the best call you can and move on, letting the chips fall where they may.

I just can't see going to my partner with a HBP question, 99.9% of the time I'd expect to get nothing from him on this. Depending where he is (in 2-man) it's even tougher for him because the batter is in his way.

It is only cheating if caught. Any coach, player, or fan of the team will probably tell you that.

Also, this is why there are umpires. No need for a suspension. This one was blatant but not against the rules. What rule says he can't fake it. The only rule that says anything is if he is hit, what happens. But, even with that, the umpire has to "see" it.

So, it evens out at times. They get away with one but they also don't get one as well.
