As I sat in my car listening to the Astro's pre-game show and enjoying the last bit of A/C before strapping on the tools of ignorance, a thought flashed across my mind. "All of this good, pro level gear I have and it's only been tested once..."

Then that feeling hit. You know that feeling when you take just one more slice of pizza or that extra shake of habanero sauce on your burrito? That feeling of instant regret? Yeah, that's it. I tried to brush it off but cursed myself for having such a foolish thought, as fleeting as it was. I already knew my chest protector did a yeoman's job of protecting me and something told me I'd learn a little more today. Fortune did not disappoint.

I took the following shots today, in this order:

One hopper from an untouched fastball to my left shin guard. (Pro 9)

One hopper from a quickly dying curve that hit square on my left toe. (MU460)

Fouled off pitch that went down and up right in the giggleberries. Didn't feel that at all, thank you ShockDoctor titanium!

And the cherry on the TOP, one of the F2's stepped back and planted his foot right on the middle of my right foot. Left a nice, deep scuff the length of the toe.

I feel lucky, none of these were felt but let this all be a dire warning to you all.

On a related note, my Colt game went very well. Strong pitchers and catchers for both teams, hard throwing and lots of movement. Save for the home team batter staring at three pitches on the upper right corner, the players were swinging the bat. It was a fantastic game, one of those we get that remind us why we enjoy doing this.

Tools of Ignorance= Catchers equipment. Not umpires gear.

According to many, our gear is the Tools of Arrogance :)

It's still the tools of ignorance... It takes a special person to voluntarily set up behind the catcher and have someone basically throw at you all game.
