I'm just a lowly UIC for a local LL program, with over 30 Junior umpires. This year we got two 15 year olds on to Section plates. One on an 11/12 dish, the other on the 9/10 championship stick. In SoCal, for a Junior to work at that level, it's pretty unusual. Even more so to do a plate. Oh, and they were money too.

We've had kids work state (Division) bases in the past, but no Sectional plates. It was a big deal for them, and our program.

It's one of the coolest little parks you'll ever see. Great place, great folks, great fun.

We're the league that Ocean View had to beat twice to get to the Division championship game tomorrow.

im a D62 staff umpire , i went to watch that game on wed . very close game for sure . another staff d62 dad has a son on the ovll team . he pitched the last 4or 5 outs the other night . i might take my son , down to watch the sunday game . i have a good friend who lives in fall brook , his son plays fallbrook pony ball( i think) . not LL ball . youre league site is great . my son is aged out of LL now , but i will still work the LL d62 games going forward .

Kyle,

You should be commended for your efforts with your local program.

I come from a small community on the outskirts of Hamilton structured similar...the local ball league caters to the in-house levels of kids knee high to a grasshopper. As such, most of the umpires are about the same age as yourself.

Unfortunately, the guy in charge of the umpires here is more interested in other things, and does little in terms of additional training.

It is a shame, as when I started here, we had someone similar to yourself who really made an effort to mentor the young kids just starting out. We had two young umpires under his tenure, myself and another guy a few years older than me, move up the ranks and begin to take it very seriously. He is in the Level 4 program, and I expect to follow within the next year or two.

Keep up the good work (and continue to impress those t-ball moms with your plate coat!)
