Welcome, Dad.

To answer your topic question: I've been told it "makes it easier" on officials.

I'm in the Willamette Valley. I do some games out towards the coast though.

It's a flipping conspiricy.

In answer to the topic line Fed has a couple of reasons for making their flavor of rules. One is participation, one is sportmanship, one is safety and last is what I call lowest common denominator. This means they try to simplify a rule to make it easier to enforce. Many times these are the stupid Fed rules everyone complains about, and true, many times they don't make sense. This is a LCD rule.

Somehow I have become the defender of FED rules on this site as well as others, not sure how that happened.

By the way, welcome to the board.

This is a LCD rule.

I'll always contend that the NCAA/OBR balk rule is a lot easier to understand than the CI rule in all codes. Somehow, Fed hasn't found a way to change that one, though.
