Well, I got some astounding news yesterday.

My wife and father-in-law have made the list for Honor Flight Michigan's June 6th flight to Washington DC to visit the World War II Memorial!! How special is that?!

My father-in-law will be 90 years old on Sunday, and I've heard the stories, felt the horror, seen his eyes water up during a discussion, and seen BOTH of his Purple Heart medals. Yes, both. Even through his stroke from 1997 that fortunately only makes it difficult to communicate, he can still tell a story!

SWMBO texted me the news yesterday while at work, and when I got home the first thing I said was ..."can you believe it?" She started crying, thanking me for the extra phone call and email to get them on the list, and we hugged it out :)

There's not many of these fine gentlemen left in the world, and unfortunately, the World War II memorial was the last to be produced, and obviously my father-in-law has never been.

I'm very happy and excited for both of them, and I'm very honored as well.

I have been twice, the last time was Memorial Day weekend several years ago. I chaperoned a school trip with my son who was to document his trip and make a poster. The entire Mall was loaded with veterans, but the WW II Memorial was just absolutely packed with them. We spent a lot of time there just in complete awe of the experience. When I saw my son's poster, he had a candid photo of a Pearl Harbor survivor with the caption, "A Living Memorial."

It is today!! Alarm at 3:15, dropped off SWMBO and my father in law at 4:30 @ Metro .....and they're just about ready to pull away on the way to Baltimore, then off to DC

All the news trucks where there, ....there was a high-school band playing, photographers, you name it. A great day that these men deserve! An emotional day for my wife as she's been wanting to take him for a while now, ... it's going to be a long day, but a great one for sure!

I salute you, Norbert E. Murphy, PFC, Company G, Infantry
