My favorite team mom shows up to other games too.

Gotta love mom behind the plate.

But I love Critter in the comments even more.

Moms behind the plate are much better than Dads who think they know something behind the plate. LOL :-)

Looks like a good umpire, I have a wide stance like him. I was told I look out of balance. I think it looks fine. I have one foot at batters feet (center of batters box) and the other center of the catcher or the plate.

Stike zone is big!!!

Well she does kinda have a point on strike 3 lol

The catcher is set up off the outside corner - and no I'm not basing this off the camera angle; the catchers right foot is fully inside the chalk line of the RHB box - and its in front in front of that knee that he catches the pitch.

While I would agree with you about the annoyingness, its something that you can and need to learn to tune out because, unfortunately, occupational hazard.

Women speaking about baseball at ballgames is the female gender at its most laughable.

However, this particular instance was a rare example of a woman actually being correct about a baseball matter.

His set is too late

On the first pitch. The 2nd and 3rd, its fine.

Setting when the pitchers lead foot is extended and on the way down to plant is ok?

Is he stopped and "locked" before the pitcher releases the ball?...

Yes, I see that. However, based on other critiques I've seen in different videos, ...that's considered late. Unless I'm confusing something with something else?! Which is possible! :smachhead:

Don't get me wrong, in that video its not ideal. If I was evaluating him, I would mention it because of what happened on the first pitch. But if the guy was able to consistently do it before the pitcher delivered, there's no need to mention it. You have to allow umpires to work within their own parameters bearing in mind central core principles. As long as those principles are met, in this case being down and locked before F1 delivers, evaluators should be happy.

I think it should also be mentioned here that the timing may be affected by it being a LHP. I have seen some umpires, this guy included, refrain from dropping into their set until F1 commits to home. In lamens terms, if PU finds himself in his set and F1 throws to 1B, they call a balk.

He is setting late. He needs to go down as the pitcher starts his motion but be set before he releases. The third strike looks wide.

Smart catcher. If he's going to call it off the plate, keep throwing it there. Especially if Mom is complaining about it. Reward accuracy.

If a catcher sets up on the outside corner, THEN moves his mitt to the right to catch it, that might be a ball. I'm just sayin'.
